Lyrics for The Killing Moon as interpreted by numb

The Killing Moon Lyrics
Under blue moon I saw you
So soon you'll take me
Up in your arms, too late to beg you
Or cancel it though I know it must be
The killing time
Unwillingly mine

Fate up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

In starlit nights I saw you
So cruelly you kissed me
Your lips a magic world
Your sky all hung with jewels
The killing moon
Will come too soon

Fate up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

Under blue moon I saw you
So soon you'll take me
Up in your arms, too late to beg you
Or cancel it though I know it must be
The killing time
Unwillingly mine

Fate up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

For a long time, I thought that this song was about love ("under blue moon I saw you, so soon you'll take me/fate, up against your will"), until I watched an interview with Ian Mcculloch, in which he explain that the song is actually about murder! Have fun discussing, all!

It Makes Me Think Of A Girl With A Haunting Energy And An Undeniable Attraction.
It Feels Like He Only Met The Girl One Night And Never Saw Her Again.
It's Very Tantalizing And Mysterious.
"So Cruelly You Kissed Me."
Saying, Now We Can Never Take It Back. You Have Me Under Your Spell.
"Your Lips A Magic World."
That He'll Never See Again.
It Was, "Fate Up Against Your Will"
He Had No Choice, He Couldn't Resist Her.
"Through The Thick And Thin"
No Matter What, It's Fate, Bound To Happen.
"You Will Wait Until You Give Yourself To Him."
You're Waiting For Him.
Very Haunting.

Oh my HELL!!!! Donnie Darko...blah blah blah. This song was released in 1984. You should listen to the rest of the Bunnymen's stuff. It's excellent!

I was on my way to the church of the black nazarene in the seedy Quiapo district of Metro Manila, weaving my way through through the labyrinth of hawkers and vendors clustered around the church proper, when I heard the opening strums of this song emanating from an empty machine shop. Total Gothic moment.

Sorry everyone, this song is about the hopelessness of death. Unless you romanticize death and the loss of love throughout life, this is not a 'romantic song'. Tihs song is more of a song of someone giving up on life because there is nothing more to offer...

which reminds of a girl that I know.. she is so depressed she can't drink anymore... she just broke up with a friend of mine... and yes we were like 13 when we first hooked up... people are like microwave popcorn... if you only knew what value is in this place called earth.

it is about everything, what are you going to do with you're life... realizing.. we can't escape honesty in our actions and expressions and mostly in our loud voices.. it kind of bring me backs to how we revolve around each other's life in some strange way.. fate up against you're will.. the things that come in quality will be you're only choice for survival.

Stop talking about Donnie Darko!!! It wasn't even supposed to be used for the opening sequence...Never Tear Us Apart by INXS was supposed to be used but it was too expensive! I'm so glad it happened that way, but anyway. Talk about the song, not the movie!

The Grim Reaper is seen standing throughout the entire music video...

I had an interesting experience with this song, I was part of a spiritual ritual during the new moon, and a couple of days after it my clairvoyant spiritual teacher pointed out that I seemed to not be willing to let go of my past. Shortly after that the melody of the chorus of this song popped into my head, I did not know the words so I looked it up:

"Fate up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him"

My interpretation is that this was a message to me that
in order to fulfill my spiritual destiny I need to stop resisting it with my will, but God/Jesus will wait patiently through the ups and downs of my life (ie: through the thick and thin) until I give myself to him to be his servant. I know it's probably a different message than the artist intended but I thought it was worth sharing.

As for what the artist probably intended, when I read all of the lyrics it appears that it is probably a song about someone who broke his heart in the end.

I keep dreaming about my ex-girlfriend... if you think of this song as dreaming of your lover and waking to find she's still gone it makes perfect sense, although I know these guys are smarter than that.

I am a Darko fan, I have heard this song before as well. It is awesome. I give the 1980's little credit for having good music and I think it is a deserved title. This song helps debunks my assertion. Great song all the way around.

I think this song is not only about death and fate, but more the temptation of giving into such forces and forfeiting the power - or belief of the power - that the singer had over his own existence.

at first i thought it was about love, but the haunting tone reveals something deeper, more than love, or a different love..
