Okay what is it tonight?
Please just tell me what the hell is wrong
Do you want to eat, do you want to sleep, do you want to drown?
Just settle down, settle down, settle down

I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
Give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
I'll even let you watch the shows you want to see
Just marry me, marry me, marry me

I'm so sick of you tonight
You never stay awake when I get home
Is something wrong with me, something wrong with you?
I really wish I knew, wish I knew, wish I knew

I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
I'll give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
I'll even let you watch the shows you want to see
Because you'll marry me, marry me, marry me
Marry me, marry me, marry me

I was young, I learned a game
When love and happiness were the same
Now I'm older and I don't play
I found out the hardest way
I got wasted, she got mad
Called me names and she called her dad
He got crazy and I did too
Wonder what I did to you?

I gave you candy, gave you diamonds, gave you pills
I'll give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
I even let you hear the songs I want to sing
I'll give you anything, anything, anything

Anything... anything

I think I heard this song the first time it was played on the radio. KROQ DJs Jed and April got in an argument about which one of them had discovered the greatest new band in the world, and after 3 or 4 minutes of them going back and forth, I was thinking, "Well, however good this song is, no way it can live up to that kind of hype".

And then they put it on, and yes, it lived up to that kind of hype, and then some. If I was Jed, I would have ganked it from April and played it before her shift too.

The best thing is, there's really nothing "new wave" or "alternative" or "modern" (or whatever KROQ was calling themselves that year) about it. It's just straightforward power pop, a slightly faster version of the Kinks. But it's got so much energy and emotion that it doesn't matter. Anyone who doesn't immediately love this song has no heart.

And the rest of their music is just as good. Whether they're singing about the people they left back in New Jersey or worrying that they'll be forgotten and homeless In a few years, it's always just so real and passionate that you immediately get sucked in.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
