Passing by you light up my darkest skies You'll take only seconds to draw me in So be mine and your innocence I will consume dark shines Bringing me down Making my heart feel sore Because it's good hold your hands up to your eyes again Hide from the scary scenes, suppress your fears So be mine and your innocence I will consume dark shines Bringing me down Making my heart feel sore Because it's good You're dark shines Bringing me down Making my heart feel sore Because it's good

    General Comment:Hmmm.....
I think that he is in a 'relationship' with a girl much younger. Say 15/16. He and this girl .... you know.... but this girl doesn't know what she's doing. He know's its wrong, but keeps pushing it to the back of his mind, trying to ignore the fact that he's taking away her innocence, cause it's 'good'.

But these conflicting emotions are slowly making him lose his mind.

I'm only 14, so sorry if this is all wrong!

Love this song though. It makes me cry

General Comment:I think he doesn't love her for real. For some reason, he is obligated to love her. "Bringing me down" and "...sore, 'cause it's good". It's not what he wants, but "it is good". Maybe he stays with her because of pity ("DARK shines"). But he doens't want to know that he's not staying with her because of love. "hold your hands up to your eyes". Ans then the part of "I will consume your innocence". He says in fact: let's just be 2gether, and don't consider the truth. I guess...

General Comment:Seems to be about feeling really negative and dark, almost evil, seeing a young innocent person and wanting to literally consume their innocence because you have none left. It's a pretty dark and brooding song especially as we all know women who get with a bloke and after a while they are changed and miserable because their new bloke is a depressive, jealous, twisted kind of person. It's not a nice theme but these situations happen every day and the song is really good. Just must have been written when Matt was really depressed and saw a happy couple or someone who is just too jolly for their own good and he thought - I'd like to wipe the smile off your face, suck out your happiness because I feel like shit....and ex of mine was like that, I'd ring him up and be all happy and he would be like, what the fuck have you got to be happy about and would only be satisfied when he'd reduced me to tears...this is what I think about when I hear the song.

i think that whoever it was that said that this is about the person bringing about bellamy's darkest traits/qualities is right, she brings out the worst in him, and also that this is hinting that the girl is so wonderful that she lights up even the darkest of skies
you'll take only seconds to draw me in
'draw me in' implies action, that the person intentionally drew him in
so be mine and your innocence i will consume
in possessing and knowing whatever quality the girl has which makes bellamy giddy, he destroys it, he can never truly possess her innocence without destroying it, at least in his mind

    dark shines
    bringing me down
    making my heart feel sore
i think that this is about bellamy possessing/taking the girls innocence, and yet lamenting it at the same time
    because it's good
not sure what he means by this... maybe hes ashamed of himself for enjoying taking the girls innocence

hold your hands up to your eyes again
hide from the scary scenes, suppress your fears
so be mine and your innocence i will consume
i think that this verse is about the girl coming to dislike bellamy, and his 'darkest skies' which she brings out in him

    dark shines
i think that dark shines is about the metaphorical light which lights up bellamy's darkest skies, which is saying that while he loves this girl, he is at his worst around her
    bringing me down
    making my heart feel sore
    because it's good
    you're dark shines
    bringing me down
    making my heart feel sore
    because it's good

overall i think that this song is about a girl which bellamy can never truly have/possess, because he sees her as being so amazing that disappointment is inevitable. Also, her innocence is what draws him in, and she will never be truly innocent in his mind while he has a relationship with her. On top of that, she brings out his worst traits, so he makes her afraid of him, and maybe she leaves him, so thats why hes 'sore'... maybe not.

in a grander sense, this song is about seeing/wanting something which you can never have, or, worse, having it, and in doing so, destroying its beauty, which you find out never existed.

    General Comment:my take

Darkshines is about depression. Dark Shines is a personification of depression, in the same way that the character Jack Frost is a personification of winter. Bellamy seems to sing the verses from Darkshines' point of view and the chorus from his own.

General Comment:Originally I thought this song was about rape, too, like Flah said.
But now I think it's about the whole promiscuous sex/groupie thing that has been mentioned.
    Because, in the chorus;
    'dark shines
    bringing me down
    making my heart feel sore
    because it's good'

I believe this is Matt, or whoever the song is about saying that sleeping with these (young, innocent) women is good, however, it's bringing him down emotionally because it makes his heart feel sore, perhaps because he desires something more, which may be love, a real relationship etc.
Love is within our heart, and this may be heartbreak.
I don't know, but that's how I feel about it.

General Comment:I ran across a real nice acoustic cover of this song on youtube. I like it cause Its softer but, to me, still captures the essence of the song.
