Look on down from the bridge
There's still fountains down there
Look on down from the bridge
It's still raining up here
Everybody seems so far away from me
Everybody just wants to be free
Look away from the sky
It's no different when you're leaving home
I can't be the same thing to you now
I'm just gone, just gone
How could I say goodbye?
How could I say goodbye?
Goodbye

Maybe I'll just place my hands over you
And close my eyes real tight
There's a light in your eyes
And you know, yeah you know
Look on down from the bridge
I'm still waiting for you

General Comment:It's one of the most beautiful ways to say goodbye to someone. It would be perfect for a suicide note.

General Comment:This song is a true "album-ender" to conclude Among My Swan (1996), isn't it? No words for this one. I agree: stunningly sad, extremely moving.

General Comment:When I hear it, I always think to the suicide bit. That ending line "Look on down from the bridge, I'm still waiting for you" makes me think of someone who's too miserable to remain here, and they're waiting for their lover to join them in eternity. Though, I can definitely sense just the failed relationship interpretation.

I guess you can take it literally or figuratively. Whichever way it resonates more with you.

It's so gloomy and beautiful. I think this is the song I want played at my funeral.

General Comment:I think it's about a relationship that's already over, and someone that just DON'T wanna move on '[...]there's still fountains down there', not simply because he's not comformed... it's about someone with a waaaaay deeper dependence, very low self-steem (maybe even masochistic), someone that became a ghost of himself, denying the life that is still ahead, and the company of other people... THAT is some *kind* of suicide, isn't?

General Comment:i think this song is about her (hope) and jeff roebach (spellchek). look on down from the bridge... meaning the bridge of the slide guitar jeff played on practically evry mazzy song. very deep imagery with this one. one of mazzys best

General Comment:I used to think this song was about having suicidal thoughts, but I don't so much anymore.

"I can't be the same thing to you now", kinda indicates it's about a failed relationship and the person is moving on.

Of course, we'd be waiting a very long time for Hope to give her thoughts on what it's about.

General Comment:This song has a special meaning to me. It's the song played in the soprano's 1st season at Jackie Aprile's funeral. I used to watch that show every Sunday with a friend in college. We grew close, then we moved in together. It went downhill. Graduated and moved back home, I had some things to return to her, so I mailed them out and I put a copy of this song on a CD and sent it too. I never knew such a simple two syllable word as "goodbye" could be so hard to say.

How could I say goodbye? How could I say goodbye? Goodbye.

General Comment:Does anyone else feel the whole suicidal tinge of this song?
I know thats not very mazzy, mazzy is usuall more surreal and psychedlic but it's just something I get a slight feeling of with this song.

General Comment:Hope Sandoval has absolutely the most beautiful voice of anyone, ever. I hate that I never got to see Mazzy Star in concert.

This song is the highlight of "Among My Swan", I think.

Like any great song, the lyrics are quite vague - is she talking literally or figuratively? I don't know... Hell, I don't care. This song is beautiful. If you don't have every album that Mazzy Star released, shame on you.
