So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
I want to hold the hand inside you
I want to take the breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life,
You go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there.
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger's light it comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then it's smiles cover your heart
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
I want to take the breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life,
You go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there.
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger's light it comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then it's smiles cover your heart
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew

Most of you are idiots. This is a website to say what this song means to you. If all you are going to say is "I love this song" Blah blah blah, nonsense...don't waste the time of those who care about deciphering the meanings, after all, this is songmeanings.com
Hmmmmmmm...did you decipher the lyrics somewhere within your tirade? ;) As for the song, it's so gorgeously romantic. She wants to meld with him in perfect harmony. She wants to feel his soul within hers. To touch his soft skin and intertwine their fingers. To move in perfect rhythm even when there is no music other than the music of their heartbeats. So.....how's that for an interpretation:) Geesh...now I need a cold shower:)
Kick rocks. We'll say whatever we want to say. Nothing you can do about it.
