That's part of the German wedding vows.

Hast = Second person form of haben (to have)
Hasst = Second person form of hassen (to hate)
It's meant to be a bit of a play on words; you don't know what he's saying until he says "Du hast mich gefragt," which "You have asked me." In German when you put something in past tense you always throw the verb to the end, so the raw translation of that would be "You have me asked."

After much research, while sick and not at my usual place of business, the song has a dual meaning of have adn hate being a song dealing with the old story of love-marriage-divorce so have and hate do go both ways......but hate sounds so much better....don't you think.

For one final argument the english version says hate and it is the german version that can be taken both ways and all you bitches who translated it and didnt actually listen to the song enough to get the simplest of things.

lmao, angel, u have no brain... for one thing, there are two translations, both of which were made by rammstein. secondly, we have all agreed the song kicks ass, and no one cares whether or not it is have or hate nemore, cuz we all love the song! so, stfu, listen to the song, finish your life, and die, like all of us will do...

Okay... to explain the real lyrics.
This is how it goes... you see the song should actually be Du Hasst, as it is sung. Which would mean the lyrics, almost like the english version are:

You Have Asked Me To Say And I Did Not Obey

He's talking about being at the alter and how the bride hates him and how the minister and bride are trying to get him to say "I do."

Before anyone asks: German is my first language, English is my second.

...and bored 1, it is you who has no brain. People with brains tend to put in the effort of punctuation, capitalization, proper spelling, etc.

Captain Feral is right. It's hate, not have.
You have me would be (although my grammar may be dodgy) "du hasse mich" - although, in german the ss is represented as symbol similar to a B

but hate is "du hasst mich" - it's a slightly different word with slightly different spelling, but it makes for a better song

if you look at the german lyrics it says "du hast" which is you have not "du hasst" which is you hate.
"You have asked me" this would make no sence with "hasst" cos it would be "you hate asked me" its you have definately

Captain Feral, you're German, and you translate "und ich hab' nichts gesagt" as "and I did not obey"? The English translation is completely wrong and it's been written wrongly simply so English people would get the main gist of it without losing rhyme. Apparently rhyme is more important than the whole meaning of the song, which I don't agree with, but hey, not my song. Patronise, the word is 'hast', no question about it. Their song is called "Du Hast", are we all to assume Rammstein just can't spell?

Why are you arguing? It's a play on words. Doesn't work in English because English isn't German. I'd have thought any idiot could work that out. Hast and hasst sound the same in German. Hate and have don't sound the same in English. We can't reproduce the pun, but why are you finding it so hard to UNDERSTAND it? The point is that we assume it says 'you hate me' until Till throws another verb at us, then we realise it's 'du hast', not 'du hasst'.

The 100% official meaning is.... meaningless.
Nobody is absolutly clear of the songs English translations because what one line means in English contradicts the next line in English.

For the lazy ones, the translations that THIS website gives us are the closest thing to what is correct. Which is;
'You have asked me
And I have said nothing' etc

The translations given in the Sehnsucht album are made to sound similar and rhyme, but not replicate the original meaning. Its a lot easier in English to sing 'You hate me' Rather than 'You have asked me', where as in German its easier to say 'Du Hast Mich Gefract' in the meaning of 'You have asked me'

Anyway, Bottom line is... this song is absolute brilliance. And thats all anyone should think.

i was just at a summer program where german was taught as a second language, and since we only had 10 hours for the whole summer, the teacher (who's a native german) corrected any misconceptions we had during the last 2 hours. he said "i did not obey" is more of a "modern way" of saying "i said nothing". either way it means the same thing.
