Lyrics for Bestrafe Mich (english) as interpreted by John M

Bestrafe Mich (english) Lyrics
Punish me
punish me
Straw is gold
And gold is stone
Your greatness make me small
You're the one who will make me crawl
ja...

The lord does take
The lord does give

Punish me
punish me
You say yes
And I say no
Lock me in all you worship
Before the wind's cold hand grips

Your greatness make me small
You're the one who will make me crawl
You're the one who will make me crawl

You greatness, make me small
You're the one who will make me crawl
Your greatness makes him small
You will be punishing me for it all
The lord does take
The lord does give
Does he give only
To those whom he loves?

Punish me (8x)

This is such a cool sounding song. I listen to it over and over again.

This song reminds me to a degree of the lament of Job, who as most Jews or Christians will know, was deprived of all that the Lord had given to him in order to test his faith when Satan challenged him. Job ultimately succumbs to the temptation to question God (though he is forgiven and all his possessions are reinstated) ... perhaps that is the perspective from which this song comes?

No, Till Lindemann (lead singer) said the entire band is against one religion in which you have to completely devote yourself to it. Therefore, they're most likely athiests.

That's my point ... I see it as a criticism of God's actions.

That's kinda of funny because if you ask people they're religions and they say atheist, you kind of consider it a religion....Or I do...I dunno. But it's a really good idea of a song, the lyrics are amazing. This is what I mean about Rammstein, not exactly gothic lyrics but in German they sounds so evil just because German is such an amazing language...

It always sounded a little sexual to me.
Anyway, I seem to think that every song is about sex... so just ingnore it.

aheheh, good point sorta like the second person version of buck dich eh? i'd suppose it's about how the pain doesn't matter as long as they care enough to do it, stockholm syndrome in a way, but i love the line "you say yes, and i say no" such emotion in till's voice...

I think theres a portion of sexuality in almost every of their songs (as well as in their live performances and videos). As in this one, they seem to represent it as a game of power and submission making it "wrong" - not "nice" as one could think about sexuality.

Just to say, Jester89, yes I do believe that atleast Till is Atheist. I was sort of reading about him and in a biography it said he was Atheist.

Anyways, although it may seem obvious enough, I'm not sure if this is sexual meaning. I mean, it's not like all their songs are sexual even though it may seem so. But I would like to know what this song means, at least a little. I really like this song.

This song is a great song to sing to. But whatever you do, DON'T LISTEN TO IT WHEN YA SHRINK SAYS YOU'VE GOT PROBLEMS... Coz then it means something it shouldn't lol

i think that this song criticizes the essence of religion; a god above all people full of so much love yet he punishes everyone over and over again like a tyrant throwing the idea of pure love & godliness into confusion
