Lyrics for Ich Will (english) as interpreted by John M

Ich Will (english) Lyrics
I want

I want you to have faith in me
I want you to believe in me
I want to feel your eyes
I want to control every heartbeat

I want to hear your voice
I want to break the silence
I want you to see me well
I want you to understand me

I want your fantasy
I want your energy
I want to see your hands
I want to go down in applause

Do you see me?
Do you understand me?
Do you feel me?
Do you hear me?

Can you hear me?
Can you see me?
Can you feel me?
I don't understand you!

I want

We want you to have faith in us
We want you to believe in us
We want to see your hands
We want to go down in applause - ja

Can you hear me?
Can you see me?
Can you feel me?
I don't understand you!

Can you hear us?
Can you see us?
Can you feel us?
We don't understand you!

I want...

It's about press coverage, and how the press that a crime conjures often outweighs the sheer grotesque nature of the crime, and how people would do things for "good television." Which fits the video, since they turn a bank robbery into a publicity stunt that gets them an unnamed award.

.....to myself, the song is an indictment on the media, and how they will follow anything for a good story, and maybe a pulitzer, the video sums it up with a bank robbery that ends with the crimminals being awarded for their crime, if you want to hear it sound even better, get the volkerball one and it sounds great at the beginning with the drums....

I don't know why some people make such a big deal out of things they don't understand. If you don't get it and you don't like it, move on. I gave up trying to like Rap, it's just not my thing. Oh well then. I like song a lot, eventually it'll probably be burned into my mind even though my German is limited.

I'm Chinese-American, but I'm not some ignorant shit. I'm proud of Rammstein even if I'm not German, they do things that show they really aren't a closeminded group.

The message they were getting across is obviously about the media, but the part about the crowd works in it's own way. It seems that quite a few of Rammstein's songs have questionable meanings, and sometimes you can't really tell which one would be true.

-The media falls on the band as they leave, giving them a safe passage and allowing them to stick around for the aftermath of the event. Without those eager to speak to them, they'd be gone.
-The fans crowd them and buy their albums and go to their concerts. Without them, the band would really have no reason to exist. "Without those eager to speak to them, they'd be gone."

I'm an american and I'll just say I'm embarrassed by idiots who think that any song is shit if it's in a language that you can't understand.

Actually, in an interview Rammstein said this song is about how the media will love anyone who gives them a good story no matter how horrible the person is, and that if the media makes these people rembered throughout history it's no wonder people do such horrible things.

Here is the way I see this song. In a live performance, the band and audience feed off each other. The band plays the music, the crowd takes in the music, and the band in turn takes in the crowd's reactions. A good song (like this one) charges up the crowd, and the crowd cheering and screaming for more, and singing along charges up the band.

Now these lyrics are probably a bad translation, but I always got the same feeling from the original version. It just feels like one of those 'lets blow the roof of this joint' kinda songs. Especially in one of the translations I read. he sings 'do you hear me?' (in German, obviously) and the crowd screams back 'we hear you!'

I would hate to be in the pit when this song starts playing. guaranteed, someone always gets hurt with this kinda energy coming from the stage.

the lyrics of this song remind me mostly of a scene from Nazi-Germany when Adolf Hitler and his Propagandaminister Josef Goebbels held speeches to a huge crowd , and they made them believe all their lies until they went completely nuts holding their hands up in the "Hitler Gruß", screaming "Sieg Heil" over and over.
I think pictures of this event would have been great in the video for this track, but of course would also have brought up the false claim that Rammstein are Nazis (which they aren't) and probably also bans for their videos :)
The Lyrics of this song basically just want the crowd to break loose and join in the great live act, but a subtle note still stays - which can be interpreted as eg. Polititians who wanna make you believe all their bullshit without questioning.

I think that when they say "I don't understand you" they mean that they can't understand how, after learning that all they want to do is control the people, the people still go along with what they tell them to do. Basically, saying, I don't understand how you can be so blind/naive to whats going on.

I agree with Xevrathrusra that rammstein is very sexy-sounding. Alot of their lyrics have much sexual connotation involved. I love music that sends shivers up my spine and for me rammstein does that. I could care less what language a song is in, as long as the music is good, and rammstein is the perfect mix of pop and rocks

(or as my friend would say: Rammstein=Pop rocks)

This song is great, the video too. I think its about Rammstein asking the crowd why? Why do they love them? Why are they influenced by them? All of Rammsteins song's are uniqe, and thats what make's them the great band they are. New bands oftern fail because all of their songs sound the same. They should take a leaf out of Rammstein's book and make all their work uniqe.

And about the language thing: I respect Rammstein for singing in their native language. I think they're the biggest german speaking band in the world? It's inspiring me to learn german when i make my choiced at the end of this skool year. Rammstein Rock Forever!!!

This song does seem to be about thier view of the fans:
"I want your fantasy
I want your energy
I want to see your hands
I want to go down in applause"
It could also be considered a desperate love song. Actually, it still is, but I mean towards a lover, not your audience. It is still a very powerful song, as can be expected from Rammstein.

It's cool that Rammstein are inspiring people to try and improve their German. I'm English, and I speak reasonable German, some French, and a few words of Italian and Mandarin. German is the only language I ever found it easy to learn, and I have a lot of respect for the language, but then English will always be my first love. I don't know how biased I really am on the issue, but I can't help it.
Anyway, about the song, it sounds to me like it has some political undertones, but it is hard to tell. I love the fact that the German lyrics fit so well with the style of music - this is probably the best genre for German, as ballads in German just don't seem to work as well somehow :S.

The key to this song is in the chorus when the band answers "I don't understand you' - This is Rammstein's crowd sing along piece and when they say 'Wir verstehen euch nicht' they are referring to both volume of response as well as the fact that they can't understand how they can influence 20,000 people to do what they say - in this case chant (or how anyone - politicians, religions etc get 20,000 people to do what they say ;-)

Its kind o'fun to listen to you guys! Well, i'm Norwegian! and i've noticed that there are rammstein-fans from multiple countries here. I saw that one of you claimed that many of european and other foreiger citicens knows english... well,i've bin in at least 7 different european countries, and only half or belov this knew the english language well enough to communicate and make themselves understood. as an example:We (my class) were in the peoples republic of czeck for approx. 3 years ago. We were a gang of 4 boys out to rent a VCR. In the store, we expressed ourseles in six different languages,- and let me say it so: no way in hell they understood what we really ment.. haha in our faces. No VCR that evening.
I know german well enough to understand a lot of the lyrics. Norwegian and german aren't that far from eachother linguisticly seen. some words look almost the same f.ex. "hören" in german is "høre" in Norwegian (ö=ø) and in english its "hear". Actually you can see the similarity between all these languages.
Not all people knows english because of too little contact with the language,as in most eastern european and southern countries, english films and more are dubbed to their domestic language.Ever seen "E.R." dubbed in czeck? hysterical rediculous!
In Norway English films are only subtitled. and 60% of the films are English/American. We also watch The fast and the fuorious, Matrix-reloaded,saving private ryan, titanic and so on. thats not my point. we also have German series and other stuff. our country are multilanguistic. And the only music-genre Norwegian is known by,is Black Metal.so we listen to other well developed languages in music-among them -german.Rammstein are interpreting the german language so well that its almost impossible to translate it to English. Thats what makes the rammstein-lyrics so interesting to listen to-IN GERMAN! some translations in english are almost as rediculous to watch as the czeckdubbed"E.R" So a little more acceptance for the german language would be convenient. I heard my first Rammstein-song for four or five years ago. i was stunned after a couple of songs. How all the components matched together:the lyrics,-the language,-the tones- ALL of it! its so original and unduplicatabe. i have so many superlatives for rammstein that would take me years to write here. Obviously not everyone likes rammstein and industrial technorock or whatever we shall categorize rammstein as. And we should accept this. But as this, it should be accepted from the opposite direction too. So dont write crap about music you cant understand. it does`nt suit you.

Thanks from Michael(and sorry for the language,it will never be perfect :o) )

oh, and to comment on the music issue -- listen to music because you love the music
despite true meaning, ignorance to language, or other opinions -- get your own opinion from it, your own meaning and emotion, and appreciate the emotion that had to go into the song
thats what counts
