Eating snow flakes with plastic forks
And a paper plate of course, you think of everything
Short love with a long divorce
And a couple of kids of course
They don't mean anything
Live in trailers with no class
Goddamn I hope I can pass high school (means nothing)
Taking heartache with hard work
Goddamn I am such a jerk, I can't do anything
And I shout that you're all fakes
And you should have seen the look on your face
And I guess that's what it takes
When comparing your bellyaches
And it's been a long time
Which agrees with this watch of mine
And I guess that I miss you, and I'm sorry
if I dissed you
And a paper plate of course, you think of everything
Short love with a long divorce
And a couple of kids of course
They don't mean anything
Live in trailers with no class
Goddamn I hope I can pass high school (means nothing)
Taking heartache with hard work
Goddamn I am such a jerk, I can't do anything
And I shout that you're all fakes
And you should have seen the look on your face
And I guess that's what it takes
When comparing your bellyaches
And it's been a long time
Which agrees with this watch of mine
And I guess that I miss you, and I'm sorry
if I dissed you

It's a Brand New cover of this song after Jesse sings The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot . The marriage of the two songs is just unreal. Not for the weak at heart.
i think the snow flakes dont just represent free food they are unsubstantial. from afar they are magical and when you actually get close they dissolve into nothing.
"short love with a long divorce
and a couple of kids, of course,
they don't mean anything"
the "of course" seems sarcastic as well. some parents get divorced and do so much damage by not thinking about their kids which i think he relates to.
"I hope I can pass high school means nothing" this like is kinda contradictory he is expressing hope while at the same time saying that it is useless. so many kids only hope to pass high school and he sees that in the bigger picture in the end passing high school still leaves him no where.
i think everyone else is completely right about the rest-- people dont actually have hardships in comparison to what he went through. Although he is angry at his mom for making him grow up in that live style, i think he acknowledges that it was not just hard for him but for her too and it was out of her control
"Eating snowflakes with plastic forks
And a paper plate of course, you think of everything"
- when you are broke and have no food to put on the table and your struggling to make it as a band and questioning whether thats even the road to take you think of all of the possibilities, you think of everyone who says your crazy for even trying and everything they tell you that your bound to ammount to. you think of all the consequences of the risk your taking.
"Short love with a long divorce
And a couple of kids, of course
They don't mean anything
Live in trailers with no class
Goddamn, I hope I can pass high school. . . means nothing"
- the first 4 lines are all what he sees could be his future, and then he snaps back to the present and says "goddamn, i hope i can pass high school . . . means nothing" isaac was still in high school when the band got together and released Long Drive. 17 i believe. but those things are minute and still mean nothing because . . .
"taking heartache with hard work
Goddamn, I am such a jerk, I can't do anything
And I shout that you're all fakes
And you should have seen the look on your face
And I guess that's what it takes
When comparing your bellyaches"
- all of the pressure of his downfalls compared to his hard work makes him feel like he will never make it, he is agreeing with what everyone has told him he would amount to, nothing. but instead of folding under it all he tells everyone that ever said he wouldn't make it that their fake because comparing their problems(bellyaches) to his having no money but doing what you love is so worth it. nothing in life matters unless your striving to do what you truely love.
"And it's been a long time
Which agrees with this watch of mine
And I guess that I miss you, and I'm sorry
If I dissed you"
- this song is on lonesome crowded west, the band was formed in 93 and only released an album 3 years later in 96 with This is a long drive and between that and Lonesome there were 3 ep's. So yes it has been quite some time since he has had to hear all of the people back home telling him that he wasn't going to make it, and he realizes that home is home and nothing can change that and he misses home after being away for so long and he is sorry that he told everyone to go to hell because they helped drive his love for what he does that much more, hes proved them wrong but he didn't mean to hurt any feelings when he told them to screw and thats that.
