Lyrics for Come Together as interpreted by Ice

Come Together Lyrics
Here come old flattop, he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please

He wear no shoeshine, he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger, he shoot Coca-Cola
He say, "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me

He bag production, he got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair, you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me

He roller-coaster, he got early warning
He got muddy water, he one mojo filter
He say, "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking because he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me

I think it's really about the rock'n'roll drug counter-culture.

I didn't realise until I got the beatles rock band game that in the chorus Lennon actually says "kill me" each time the bass comes back in. Strange

this song sounds to me like a final attempt to tell each other to come together

there are many phrases used to name each Beatle

John:"He got monkey finger, he shoot Coca-Cola"(remarking his "interest" in cocaine), "He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker"(umm we all know that Ono),"One thing I can tell you is you got to be free"(Ono seems much like a jail)

Paul:"Got to be good-looking because he's so hard to see"(noting his most notable quality to women), "He bag production, he got walrus gumboot"(his comercial interest, and a phrase in Glass Onion "the walrus was Paul")

George:"He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller"(for his interesting spiritualism),"He got hair down to his knee"(thats kind of literal)

Ringo:"He say, "One and one and one is three""(mocking his poor education), "He roller-coaster, he got early warning"(noting his first early departing from the band)

and so on

In the song John Lennon describes random people in his unique way, bassically saying everyone come together and help me with my cause ("come together right now over me"); Lets stop the war and make things right. I urge you to watch the videos "Money Masters" and "Zeitgeist Addendum" John was very aware of what's going on.

John Lennon wrote this song for Timothy Leary as a theme song for his run for governor of California. Yes, he's one funky dude - he got juju eyeballs! a holy roller! he just does what he please. he got feet down below his knees - cool! Come together, under me (most politicians think they are ruling OVER the people), right now! Come together.

Hahaha, I was such a prude when I first visited this site. I don't have a problem with Chinup's "bukkake" explanation anymore, although I find it unlikely--bukkake didn't start showing up in Japanese pornography until the 1980s. Still, I now agree that John could easily have "stooped that low."

The explanation of each verse referring to one of the Beatles makes sense to me.

this is a great song, and who knows when it comes to the beatles it can be pure random-ness or actually mean something to one [or all] of them.

I thought verse one was George, verse 2 = Paul, 3= John, and 4= Ringo.
This is why I thought this:
George was the most religious, so calling someone a holy roller was slang back then (still is for that)
George usually had the longest hair and was the first to grow it out longer that the mop top.
George seemed to have one eye a little more droopy than the other.
Joker - I don't know what that is about.

Paul - toe jam from the barefoot picture. Football is a big joint and we know how Paul would like to light it up. Coca-cola- Paul admitted to the media to using drugs other than just weed. Monkey finger might be a reference to his ability to play nearly any instrument. (monkey see monkey do) Quoting him poeticey would mean he speaks out, he has something to say as in lyrics like a song writer does. Paul wrote lyrics or poems that became songs.

John - the Ono on the side comment (John had been married to someone else). He once said that he told everyone Paul was the Walrus to further confuse them. Does that mean John is really the Walrus? He wrote a song stating "I am the Walrus".
Perhaps he had a scruffy armchair they all made fun of that they teased you could get a disease by sitting in it - that is just a guess because he had a funny sense of humor.

Ringo - he is a roller coaster (mood swings). He got early warning -you can easily tell when his moods are switching. He got muddy water - Muddy Waters was a blues musician. Maybe he liked that music or maybe it refers back to his moods again (being blue)
He say 1 + 1 + 1 is 3. Would mean that he is the drummer and he keeps time (or the count) for the
band. Has to be good looking (which he is) because you can hardly see him way in the back of the band behind everyone else.

for anyone who's heard of the "Paul Mccartny is dead" myth(search it on google if you haven't) this song leaves clues that tell the story. the myth is that paul died in a car crash and tehy replaced him with a different person.
example: "come together over me" refers to the funeral and coming together over his grave.
the "abbey road" album cover also show clues such as a car in the backround is headed for paul also a liscence plate on a car says lmw28if. LMW stands for linda mcCartney weeps and 28 if means he'd be 28 If he lived.
overall a Great song a great band and a great myth.

I don't know for sure about this one, but the short phrase that is being mouthed quietly throughout the whole song is "shoot me". Maybe Lennon was referring to someone who... "Shoots Cocaine" has "Long Hair" and "Smelly Feet" that he dislikes. I truly don't know, maybe this will inspire someone else.

I don't believe so much in the drug theory for this specific song not to say that Lennon wasn't on something when he wrote it, but is main focus for this song is NOT drugs. I have heard theories of the different lines being about each member of the band, examples:
John~ "He bag production, he got walrus gumboot" John is the walrus " He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker" obvious reference to Yoko, "Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease" This refers to when John was sick in the hospital and Yoko held him while she sat in an armchair.
The last paragraph obviously focuses on Ringo because he is so hard to see (you know behind that drum set) one and one and one is three because he keeps the beat and so on and so fourth.
I would say the second paragraph refers to George as the monkey fingers being his skilled hands with the base
that only leads the first paragraph for Paul.
This theory makes sense because there is only four paragraphs and they all relate, I think that this song being about drugs is complete rubish I see no drug references in this song just a story of four band members coming together as one!

I heard John first wrote it for Timothy Leary, then he re-wrote it for the Beatles. And apparently every verse is for one Beatles (my guess, 1 - George, 2 - Paul, 3 - John, 4 - Ringo)

What butterfingersbeck said on 03/18/02 was accurate. The way it went down was, on the day his conviction was overturned, Timothy Leary announced his candidacy for Governor of California, running against Ronald Reagan. His campaign slogan was "Come together, join the party." On 1 June 1969, Leary joined John Lennon and Yoko Ono at their Montreal Bed-In and Lennon subsequently wrote Leary a campaign song called "Come Together." Leary was also present when Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono recorded Give Peace A Chance during one of their bed-ins in Montreal and is mentioned in the lyrics of the song. He's actually a really interesting guy, I recommend his book 'Flashbacks', or check him out on wikipedia or something. He's really interesting to read about...to summarize...he's a shrink who prescribed LSD in studies he performed!

I know that John wrote this but it sounds like it's about himself, in vague references...
especially bag production (he was a somewhat leader)
walrus gumboot (apparently I am the Walrus related to his life)
Ono sideboard (he married Yoko Ono in the year the song was released)
hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease (Beatles often said that some of John's depression or anger shown outward).

also...i don't think it's "everybody smoke pot" although it could be...certainly could be a suggestion to help with the understanding.

i think it's "everybody haha." but both actually fit with the meaning.

but probably the best way to get what I am the walrus means is to watch bono sing it in across the universe with as clear a mind as possible....

maybe watching the magical mystery tour will help clear up the meaning too... the i am the walrus video is on youtube, and it makes it's meaning somewhat clear...

but the across the universe movie helps you understand it because it provides much of the historical context...but the meaning is still relevant today

BeatleInsight has cool ideas...i like them a lot whether or not it's all completely true.

But I am the Walrus is NOT meaningless.....actually I think it's meaning fits very well within your theory....it's about well...there are some good posts on the i am the walrus site. the wikipedia article is also a decent place to start

"Got to be good looking cause he's so hard to see..." Has got to be one of the most hilarious and clever lines written by John.
