Australopithecus, friend to the end and but it's over
Over, over again
You wanted to chase around the cat and the dog
While they're playing like that and I said
"What's the matter, friend?"
Australopithecus, friend to . . .

General Comment:What I get here is really cool. Back in the day Modest just put one thirty second song, made their point, and moved on. Now they're a comercial success and have to make longer, radio-friendly songs, but the basics haven't changed. They still make one solid point with each song, but now w/ more musicality and subtlety. There is NO subtelty here. Australopithecus isn't an early ancestor of humanity, it's the earliest ancestor of humanity, which is significant. "Friend to teh end" means we're linked to our earliest ancestor untill it all goes down. As SparklingLemonade pointed out, it cuts off, as to say "It's all going to end" so we are as important as a non-erect ape man from 3 million B.C.E., whatever happens, it's goin' away eventually. This theme of the futility of life is repeated in several Modest songs such as Satin in a Coffin, Trailer Trash, and my favorite, Talking Shit about a Pretty Sunset.

General Comment:this CD definately doesn't suck. It's just much more difficult to pick to significance and meanings out of each song. This is pretty obvious, compare say Float On of Spitting Venom to Australopithecus. They were much less conventionally musical and articulate in their meanings (intentionlly or no).

General Comment:man im lost does the first line in the song have anything to do with the rest of it
so first hes talking about friends and how its over now
then he starts talking about a cat and dog playing
so i dont know just a guess
is he saying your trying to play with them when there playing like that
cause their wild so maybe hes realating his friend to a prestoric kinda wild thing
or is he compareing them two like that
like they way they fought before their friendship ened was that like a cat and a dog chase one another
    or something
etheir way i love the voice and the guitar
    the song is perfect
    short simple catching
    beatiful

General Comment:this song is on sad sappy sucker. i love this song, isaac brock said in an interview that he IS an atheist but things about the world still confuse him. i guess he wrote this because he believes in darwinian theories.
