Lyrics for Where Is My Mind? as interpreted by numb

Where Is My Mind? Lyrics
Oooh - stop

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
When there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind?

Way out in the water
See it swimming

I was swimming in the Caribbean
Animals were hiding behind the rocks
Except the little fish
But they told me, he swears
Trying to talk to me, to me, to me

Where is my mind?
Way out in the water
See it swimming?

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
When there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind?

Ooh
With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Ooh
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Ooh
Ooh

This song ended Fight Club perfectly. I can't think of a better song for that movie.

Gahhh. I just love this song. It makes me feel like doing whatever today, just floating along. Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind?

according to Wikipedia:

"Francis was inspired to write "Where Is My Mind?" after scuba diving in the Caribbean. He later said he had "this very small fish trying to chase me. I don't know why - I don't know too much about fish behavior.""

This song's lyrics are retarded and meaningless, but it still is a great song, and structured wonderfully. I just hate songs that could have been written by a mad man... or a retard for that matter.

i don't think that the lyrics to any song are retarded, especially this one. it's my favorite song by the pixies and it is wonderful. Black Francis (or Frank Black or whatever you want to call him) wrote lyrics with deeper meanings than many people realize. maybe he wrote this song about something entirely different than what everybody has been guessing. and i think that everybody should just stop associating this song with the movie "Fight Club". it's a great song on its own.

I love how crazy ass Frank incorporates surfing into songs. I picture him out surfing and this huge wave comes and he tries to take it on ("Try this trick and spin it") so he falls and you know how you can just get totally slammed down by a wave, like face-plant into the sand, well that sort of thing happens after he attmepts te gnar wave(your feet in the air and your head on the ground..). Then "your head will collapse.." then from there on his mind is just off and sees the fishie trying to follow him and talk to him. Oh and when hes singing he goes "tryna talk to me talk tameeewewewe Where is my miiiinnndd..." and so he's like "....whaaatt, fishies don't talk. Back to RE-AL-I-TY

what an amazing song-though it is the only one by the Pixies I enjoy, not that they're bad, they're just not my style

i ate a lot of mushrooms one night and listened to this song at least 30 times with some friends, it became our theme song for the night-I couldn't stop smiling as I heard it

I also like how it concluded Fight Club, a great book and an even better film

Have you ever rolled down a hill and try to get up? You can't because the world is spinning so you're left swimming on the ground. Yeah, that's what the song means to me.

I'm so obsessed with this song, but because I first discovered it on a fan tribute to mah fave charrie from Death Note ... and it made me fall into a fit of silent sobs ... because my fave character dies ...

I think this is just one of those songs that seems to make no sense, but has some hidden meaning ... someone who's gone slightly insane and they don't care what happens anymore ... they could kill themselves and they wouldn't care, but they are aware of their insanity ... not suicidal tendencies (although it could very well be described that way), but insanity ... the whole 'where is my mind, way out in the water, see it swimming' is kinda telling us, they know they're 'away with the pixies' ;) . The whole, 'swimming in the carribean' and all the fish hiding from him, might be like everyone hates him/seems to want to hide from him, and the only person who'll stay with him is perhaps someone who everyone else classes as insane too ... or something ... hey don't mind me, I'm pulling random meanings out of nowhere right now.

I ADORE THIS SONG THOUGH. And I only found it today. A couple of minutes ago, actually. XD

"it makes me so mad that almost all of you posted on this song because its in fight club.. the song didnt come from the movie guys..it was out in the 90's.. the pixies totally dont get the respect they deserve for what they did musically.." I totally agree with this.

and I think this probably is the meaning:

"mhmmmmmm drugs.
and recognizing beauty, seeing truth."

Especially seeing the truth, or at least that's what it makes me feel. I makes me get inside of me... and yes, I have cried with this song... so many times. ♥

i know everyone's mentioned fight club ninety thousand times, but one more couldn't hurt, could it?
when the song plays, and the buildings are exploding..
it's epic. it's just so fucking epic. and the fact that the two are watching everything collaspe around them to this song, which i think is absolutely beautiful.
the moment just gets me every time..

this pixies gather up all the rushes of adrenaline and emotion and ideas that swirl round in ones mind, and translate them into an amazing, amazing song. when listening to it, the music washes over your mind as if you were getting into a warm bath, and it consumes you for a while..

one of the most intense movie moments i have ever experienced is at the end of fight club, where the buildings start to implode and he takes her hand.. hanahiscool sums it up pretty well in the above comment

if you have ever tried to delve into your mind, and follow each tangent that another thought brings up, you soon see that your mind is too complicated and too diverse to step back and look at. so you end up confused, and not feeling great about it.

and this song captures that randomness, that infiniteness, in such a good way that you could just float on the feeling of knowing how random your mind is, and not caring about anything else. until the song ends.

its kinda depressing when the song ends if you keep thinkin about your mind.. it feels awesome to continue the songs feeling, and not care..

i doubt anybody who reads this will have a clue what im trying to say..

2nd

I believe this song is about suicide, that's indicated in the first verse, the chorus is about the moment of regret, and the second verse is about the afterlife

Actually, the song does have some what of an obvious meaning, besides metaphors. It was written about a story one of the members of the Pixies used to tell about being as high as they'd ever been and then going scuba diving.
