Lyrics for Gigantic as interpreted by numb

Gigantic Lyrics
And this I know:
His teeth as white as snow
What a gas it was to see him
Walk her every day into a shady place
With her lips she said,
"Hey, Paul, hey Paul, hey Paul
Let's have a ball"

Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big, big love

Lovely legs, they're a
What a big black mess
What a hunk of love
Walk her every day into a shady place
He's dark, but I'd want him
"Hey, Paul, hey Paul, hey Paul
Let's have a ball"

Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big, big love

i agree, but i think it is possible that this song has nothing to do with a black man and possibly more of a metaphor of a forbidden love that no-one else approves of cuz he either is or is not good for her. and gigantic could be a metaphor for the emotin from all that, like the pain, passion, pleasure, situation, irony, etc. ....or it could just be about BBC. only the artist truly knows, no matter what they say, and our guessing and mixed multiple interpretations are a gigantic part of the beauty of music and all art.

Considering Charles Thompson the III had a penchant for writing songs with ethnocentric caricatures: fumanchus, mexican maids, cholitas with tattooed tits, means this song probably IS about a white or lighter-skinned /lighter-caste girl wanting to get fucked by a big black stud. Whether or not you read this song as being about liberation in the same way Hanoi Jane is being liberated by those hot black panthers in Sonic Youth's cool thing or whether you think Black Francis is just another privelaged white crooner in the long standing tradition of Minstrelsy we call Rock and Roll is totally up to you. I love the pixies for their atmospheric pandering, but I don't see myself seeking spiritual or moral guidance anytime soon from some round-limbed, screeching man-child.

This song is beautiful to me, and when I first heard that it was about Kim Deal singing about an African-American man with a "gigantic" penis it really tainted it to me. So I decided I'd take my favourite song and analyze it. To me it seems if your one of the people who think how I described above you are completely insane. I can't understand how you could come up with some sort of asumption. The lyrics above are wrong and I'd like to have them fixed. I can't quite explain who "Paul" is, but the song does seem to be about a lover of hers who she has to see in secret. Hence the "alley-way" discription of the song.

Kim sings as if she is a helpless romantic, "and this I know, his teeth as white as snow, what a gas it was to see him." When a woman thinks that, her heart stops. "He'd walk her every day, into a shady place." To me, this part proves that Kim does have a lover named Paul, whom they have to meet secretly, "in a shady place." A place that is out of the way and that is softly discreet. "Hey Paul, hey Paul, hey Paul, let's have a ball." This indicates that she wants to be swept off of her feet and taken away with Paul to have the utmost pleasure. "What a big black mess, what a hunk of love." The lyrics above say, "mask," but that is not what it says on the Pixies own website, so I seem to belive the Pixies themself. Anyway, "big black mess." Kim sounds like she's met a crossroads. Left or right, Paul or her husband. "What a hunk of love." This man sounds like he gives her all she wants and more, just as every woman deserves.

Well this is how I believe the song goes. I take English Language/Literature Composition AP, and I do stuff like this all of the time with analyzing songs, so this is how I believe it goes. To each is own as my grandmother always says. And for this song and the Pixies, I la la love them, for them I have a gigantic, gigantic, gigantic... bah what the hell. A big big love.

It really captures something about being in love - but knowing the pixies it had to have its pervy edge!

I, as a newcomer, will analyze this song for you. Before I do this, let me say that I do not believe that it has to do with a secret lover or a black man...or a penis.

I believe this is one of those angry songs with a popy, almost happy tune. She is clearly being sarcastic in the song. She is in a relationship where she is being used. She is talking about a charming man which she adores and cannot seem to leave even though he is using her.

In the chorus she is basically sticking her middle finger up and singing sarcastically "Gigantic, a big big love." She is being sarcastic because she knows there is really no love there at all. None whatsoever.

And i agree with whomever said that she sings like a hopeless romantic. Similar to Kay Hanley. Love their voices.

as much as i can understand other meanings explained for this song.. i still think its about BBC. It's like the only way she can come out and admit to this "special" relationship is in third person. It seems to me like its almost an addiction for her. Like he just leads her somewhere and they "have a ball"

I almost feel sorry for the poor Paul guy.. she only wants him for his big big love.

it's good when a song makes you snicker.

Okay, so maybe it is about loving the big black cock. Once you go black you never go back. This we know hah. But for those of you light hearted folk, it could be more along the lines of a boy who kind of takes her away from the world and brings her into fantasy land (walk her everyday into a shady place) and please her, either sexually or emotionally. This resulting in her "gigantic" love for him.

Or she could just want some chocolate lovin. Either way this song is amazing.

Although the thing everyone has been saying about "BBC" makes perfect sense in the song, I just want to mention something. Couldn't Gigantic be the size of his heart? Even more than that, gigantic could be how much she loves him, "A big big love."

iheartboston! That actually makes a large deal of sense. It also makes sense that people wouldn't see the intended sarcasm. Sarcasm and satire are really hard to get across in songs, I wrote a song entitled Pity Me, that was intended to be satire. My friend took one look at it, looked at me, called it emo, and walked away.

Ok, I saw this song (along with many others) life at Lollapalooza in the summer of '05 and I must say it was absolutely terrible.

Kim Deal's voice was really off key sometimes and just not of quality, and she just couldn't play bass and sing at the same time, as the bass was off beat a LOT. I felt kind of bad for her, she obviously hadn't practiced in a long time.

Anyways, I really like it on Surfer Rosa. And yeah, it's gotta be about a white woman falling in love with a black man, interracial relationships:

"He's dark, but I want him."
"What a big, black mess."

lactosefreeman, i'm not sure if it has a woodblock or not, but you can definitely tell the difference between the two. i think you can go an amazon and listen to samples from each album. you'll noticed the difference. the wave of mutilation version is shorter. i think the sufer rosa one might even have a slight hint of piano(?) during the last chorus until the end.

Voyeurism and Kim Deal, can't go wrong. You throw in Frank Black's wail and it's like greatness.

Some of you folks are trying to analyze away the edgy 'un-PC' meaning of this song. It means exactly what it sounds like it means. A woman is having a tryst with a well-endowed black man, and she's loving it. Is that so hard to understand? "teeth as white as snow", "shady place", "let's have a ball", "big black mess", "hunk of love". And is it that hard to believe that Pixies, the group that sang about incest, mutilation, and all kinds of other un-PC topics, would write a song like this? Personally, I thought it was a great kick-ass song even before I deciphered the lyrics.

About big black cock. I apologize to the poster who wanted this song about something deeper, but that's what the song's about, no question. As for everyone crying "racist", if a black girl wrote a song worshipping the BBC, would you be saying the same thing?
