Lyrics for Gigantic as interpreted by numb

Gigantic Lyrics
And this I know:
His teeth as white as snow
What a gas it was to see him
Walk her every day into a shady place
With her lips she said,
"Hey, Paul, hey Paul, hey Paul
Let's have a ball"

Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big, big love

Lovely legs, they're a
What a big black mess
What a hunk of love
Walk her every day into a shady place
He's dark, but I'd want him
"Hey, Paul, hey Paul, hey Paul
Let's have a ball"

Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big, big love

This was the first pixies song I ever heard. After that I bought Surfer Rosa. The Pixies are one of those bands that alter the way you look at music after you listen to them.

This song is about the big, black cock. Kim is singing in 3rd person about her need for the BBC.

"Kim Deal said she took inspiration from a 1986 Bruce Beresford movie, "Crimes Of The Heart", in which Sissy Spacek is a married woman who falls in love with a 15-year old black guy."

So, yeah... Also:

"A good chord progression, very Lou-Reed influenced. I'd had the word 'gigantic' in my mind just because the chord progression seemed very big to me." - Black Francis

this song is a bit racist. What are we all just animals with big equipment?

Yep, pretty much.

Kim sounds like a little kid voyeurishly... watching a couple out of her window or something.

has anyone heard both the 'surfer rosa' and 'wave of mutilation' version. they are both superb but the wave of mutillation is a little better. its more clean cut which i know is not what you generally want with the pixies, but it brings out her voice better. i recomend you guys try to here it sometime.

Heh heh... all this talk about the BBC reminds me of that BBC Series "The Office" and that hilarious episode where Ricky Gervais's character keeps getting in trouble with management about his jokes about BBC and then the Irish joke.

I always thought she was saying "a big big log", which would add credance to the bbc theory. Guess it is kinda racist.

I don't really think this song's racist. Black men is general..well, it's true. And she says "He's like the dark, but I'd want him" ...nothing racist about that.

yeah theres nothing racist to it. Its just about a white girl and a black guy. and she obviously wants him stated by the chorus. yep and then i guess we all got the whole Gigantic about his cock and shit. not really a lesson or anything to be learned from it. it is awesome though, and surfer rosa kicks ass.

Levitator, the Surfer Rosa version of Gigantic has a woodblock in it, right? The one I keep hearing on people's burned CD's sounds like it was recorded in a grain silo, but everyone keeps telling me thats the only version they've heard of it.

I'm guessing the Wave of Mutilation version you're talking about it is the one I like. It's much better sounding and with no woodblock, everyone should hear it.

...long live BBC!

I'm so sick of closed minded people saying that every piece of art or entertainment that has a subject matter of or includes in some fashion race and ethnics is racist. I just want to punch those people. You are not helping anything or anybody, assholes. You are pushing all of impressionable society back to ignorance. And furthermore art or entertainment that addresses common stereotypes of certain races is not racist either. It's motherfuckin statistics. Its facts. It doesn't single anyone out. Why don't you get over your own fear and actually listen to what is being said.

i agree, but i think it is possible that this song has nothing to do with a black man and possibly more of a metaphor of a forbidden love that no-one else approves of cuz he either is or is not good for her. and gigantic could be a metaphor for the emotin from all that, like the pain, passion, pleasure, situation, irony, etc. ....or it could just be about BBC. only the artist truly knows, no matter what they say, and our guessing and mixed multiple interpretations are a gigantic part of the beauty of music and all art.
