Lyrics for I've Been Tired as interpreted by numb

I've Been Tired Lyrics
One two three
She's a real left winger 'cause she been down south
And held peasants in her arms
She said "I could tell you a story that could make you cry"
"What about you?"
I said "Me too"
"I could tell you a story that will make you cry"
And she sighed "Aaahh"
I said "I wanna be a singer like Lou Reed"
"I like Lou Reed" she said sticking her tongue in my ear
"Let's go, let's sit, let's talk"
"Politics go so good with beer"
"And while we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?"
I said "Loosing my penis to a whore with disease"
"Just kidding" I said "Loosing my life to a whore with disease"
I said "Please... I'm a humble guy with a healthy desire"
"Don't give me no shit because..."

I've been tired (6x)

I tell a tale of a girl, but I call her a woman
She's a little bit older than me
Strong legs, strong face, voice like milk, breasts like a cluster of grapes
I can't escape the ways she raise me
She'll make you feel like Solomon be one of your babies even if you had no one
(And while we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?)
Took my sleep after setting my loins on fire
But that's OK because...

I've been tired (6x)

I've been tired (9x)
T-i-r-e-d spells it
Spells it

I love this song, I don't think I really need to interpret the meaning, as it is pretty easily understood... it's just a conversation between a boy and a girl. But it's just so funny and brilliantly written. and contains one of my favourite lines ever: "Losing my penis to a whore with disease..." only Black Francis could have come up with that line... genius!

This song, alone, proves that Frank Black is the musical equivalent of Jesus.

This song is very much Loud Reed-esque... Well that's probably why he mentioned his name.

The reference to the Solomon is pretty obvious--"breasts like a cluster of grapes" is a quotation from the Song of Solomon, one of the greatest pieces of erotic poetry in the Hebrew Testament.

One of the things I love about Francis is the way he shift so easily and seamlessly between lo-fi punk and hi-culture references like this. Lot's of examples. Nimrod's Son; also my fave, "Uriah hit the crapper, the crapper" from "Dead," which is based on David and Bathsheba; not to mention Gouge Away, and a few others. Boy's a friggin genius.

"Breasts like a cluster of grapes" is not a particularly nice image in my opinion. Sounds like multiple bulbous growths hanging out of a woman's chest or something!

I think it's about impotence. He can't get it up because he's tired.

I agree with all of the above, but I also don't think he knew this girl before...she seems to be a hooker, sticking her tongue in his ear immediately, knowing he has a story as well and hurts, so they do connect other than just in a physical sense. So while she is worthy of deity status by the way her body looks, he's afraid she may give him a disease since she has sex for money. Still not sure about the tired part. I just rediscovered this song after loving its every word at 14 years old...I still smile at it today.

The first few lines always reminds me of people that I've meet in college that like to brag about going and helping the poor or something.
