Lyrics for Writing to Reach You as interpreted by 3ssence

Writing to Reach You Lyrics
Every day I wake up and it's Sunday
What evers in my eye won't go away
The radio is playing all the usual
And what's a wonder wall anyway?

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on the left side
Cause I'm writing to reach you now but,
I might never reach you
I only want to teach you, about you,
But that's not you

It's good to know that you are home for Christmas
It's good to know that you are doing well
It's good to know that you're no longer hurting
It's good to know I'm feeling not so well

Because my inside in outside
My right side's on the left side
Cause I'm writing to reach you now but
I might never reach you
I only want to teach you,
About you, but that's not you
To know it's true, but that won't do

Maybe then tomorrow will be Monday
And whatever's in my eye should go away
Still the radio keeps playing all the usual
And what's a wonder wall anyway?

Because my inside in outside
My right side's on the left side
Cause I'm writing to reach you
I might never reach you
I only want to teach you,
About you, but that's not you
And you know it's true, but that won't do
And you know it's you, I'm talking to

i like this song because it reminds me of this fellow i know that only shows interest girls that are 2000 leagues under the sea because that's what he's sort of been "brainwashed" to believe. that only girls that are like this, this and this are any good..and when someone comes along that are actually in his league he doesn't even notice, and he dosn't really know any different.. in this case, me.

i heard this song after a really painful breakup and it totally got to me. i think it's like how time stands still after you break up (like "everyday i wake up and it's sunday") you cry but don't want to admit it (whatevers in my eye won't go away) and just everything you go through with stuff like that

this is probably the most brilliant travis song.

i think wonderwall is a reference to oasis and the beatles at the same time. the oasis reference comes from "But still the radio is playing all the usual, and what's a Wonderwall anyway?" Wonderwall from What's The Story Morning Glory".

the beatles reference comes from a movie from 1968 that george harrison wrote the score for. the movie was about a guy who had a voyeuristic obsession with a model named Penny Lane. He watches her in the neighboring apartment through a hole in the wall -- hence Wonderwall. It's about an obsession for a woman he cannot have and fits perfectly with the travis song.

They literally took the guitar chords from Wonderwall and added their own lyrics on top of it. Great opener for the album.

yeah brilliantly done with the stealing of the oasis tune. just a really great simple song that gets to the heart of getting over a break-up, and looking forward to what the future holds "maybe then tomorrow will be monday and whatever's in my eye should go away"

This song is fantastic.I first heard it when I was 13 in the beginning of 1999 and this got me into Travis,as the Man Who was the first album I bought and it thus got me into music.I saw them three years later in March 2002 they were the first band I went to see and they absolutely rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i think it's "whatever's in my mind wont go away" too. but nonetheless, it can still be interpreted in the same way..

i can relate to this song in the sense that i keep a diary (and now a blog) and sometimes i write abt someone i like.. it's literally like i'm writing to reach u but still, i cant reach u..

brilliant song thou..

this is one of my favorites. So many times i've "written to reach you" even when i knew that "i might never reach you"... For me, this is a "killing me softly song" bc it seems like they well telling my life to everyone.

I still don't get what they mean with: "Only want to teach you about you, but that's not you. Do you know it's true, but that won't do. And you know it's you, I'm talking to"......... Could someone help me?

Man, it's so hard to make a song like this, it's gentle, but not wishy-washy, it's still driving and earnest.

To answer your question, I interpret that line as him feeling as though the person has changed since they've been apart, and he is wondering if reminding him of the way he used to be would bring back the old him...or if he has really changed for goof

This song is awesome, the vocals are so gentle and soothing. As for what its about, I interpret it to be a guy singing who is crazed over this girl who he's writting to overseas. He's never felt this type of love before and it baffles him. Seet song.

A really well constructed song. It's pretty clearly a 'I'm messed up after a break up song' hence the "inside is on the outside" etc. There's also an interesting element of frustration I think - like he wanted to say more to her but didn't get a chance:

"Cause I'm writing to reach you now but
I might never reach you
Only want to teach you
About you
But that's not you"

Which to me suggest he's angry she wouldn't listen!

I think this song is the break up version of wonderwall by oasis. It's their guitar with his lyrics. If you want to know what a wonderwall is you should play their song. I heard of this song from Boulevard of broken songs.

I really do love the melody in this song.
Sunday is often a really tired, relaxing day after a party-night-out Saturday. I think maybe the
"Only want to teach you
About you
But that's not you"
part can speak about how sometimes, when you think you're in love with someone, you imagine this perfect being image of them. You might want to "teach" the person about who you see them to be... but after you really get to know them, you understand he or she isn't perfect. However, they might still be attractive to you and it hurts.

I believe this song is about a guy who is trying to keep in contact with a girl who he had some kind of previous relationship with, but she had move away, and the relationship was forced to end because of the distance between them. He keeps waking up to the same kind of lonely feelings every day (ie it being Sunday, and the radio playing the same songs). Though he is physically writing her, and reaching her, he isn't reaching her in the way he wants ("I might never reach you"). His feelings inside are all messed up ("Insides are outside, my right side's on my left side). "Maybe then tomorrow will be Monday" is a sign that he is hopeful for change, however he will move on eventually. He wants to teach her about herself by reminding her of what they previously shared, but "it's not her" because she is treating her differently, and the last line means that they both know she know's he is trying to keep them together, however she is choosing not to continue.
