To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

General Comment:Written over 3000 years ago, by King Solomon, if you really want to know the meaning, you need to look at the words in context.
Solomon was talking about how all of life is futile, prior to this writing.
"Meaningless, meaningless, all is meaningless!" He says (or futile in other translations. He goes on to list all the things he's had and tried, the 1000 wives and concubines, all the riches he could want..fame, knowledge, wisdom. He was recognized through life as the wisest man of his time. The Queen of Sheba came traveled to see him with gold and gems to give him in exchange for his wisdom. He had it all and his conclusion? It's all meaningless.
Then he pens these words... there is a season for everything.
After that he comes to his conclusion and I think this is the meaning ultimately of these words...
Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion:

Fear God and keep his commandments,
because this is the whole duty of man.
For God will evaluate every deed,
including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Basically, stuff means nothing... life is full of seasons, and ultimately the eternal is what matters.

General Comment:I also thing it's a tieme for peace, so don't insult people on a song that's about getting along. This song is based off of the bible, but even without getting religion invovlved, it's just saying, there are good times, and there are bad times, but life keeps turning. It doesn't stop for anyone, and you havev to go through the bad stuff for the good stuff. So, even though there's war and hatred, maybe peace is somewhere around the corner.

Anyone else find it ironic that this is the song with the most comments, and there are only twenty of them (not including this one or future comments) and yet there are horrible songs by other artists that aree just plain crap, yet they have hundreds of comments?

Someone above me said that Jesus wouldn't say there is a designated season for hate. I disagree. We shouldn't love or embrace evil, so we should hate it. Also, without hate, there can't be love. Love wouldn't be so important to find if there wasn't hate. There's more hate than love in the world, but love is stronger than hate, and hopefully it will prevail.

All the little lessons we learn in kinderegarten about compromise and getting along are lost on the way to adulthood for most people, and I just hope that there are people who still want peace.

Peace hasn't quite had its season yet, but it's day will come, hopefully soon.

General Comment:i beg to differ :D I think the other way around. As mentioned, i should ignore the comments i don't agree with, but i'm sorry, i have to admit i quite like a discussion. Especially about religion, cause it keeps surprising me!
I think i'm probably one of the few people on this world who is NOT an idiot. Which of course, makes me the idiot for not following the mob.
anyways, the big picture... What big picture? I think we're a fluke of the universe, as there are probably others out there, who knows. But somehow, this planet came to life, and creatures started to evolve and adjust to the environment and enemies, diseases etc...
(those who are opposed to evolution, now sorry, that i won't get into, use your brain)
So no further need to get into the 'i don't or do believe' subject. i think it's obvious where my thoughts lie.
As for the song, i think it's just about life and all it's stages, just like it says. There are ups and downs, just the way it goes... no more than that i guess

If anyone wants to get into the religionsubject though, i'd love to :D
