Take away the wine
For restlessness plagues me
I am assailed by a spectre profounder
Than hatred and grief or the sum of their hideous crime

I shalt suffer this confessional mime

Awaiting the sun to set, crimsoning seas
Only once it is dark doth my misery cease

She died to a sky dressed in flame
Eyes full of curses for her killers by choice
Who fell to their god o'er her vision and voice

"I am as dusk come to ravish the light"
Steal me from their stares and mute Christ into night
"I will answer thy prayers"
If thou Wouldst drink of my life

Encroaching evening skies
Die with such tragedy
And those interred in cold graves
Dwell on pleasures to be
In deep hysteria
Where our legend still breathes
Through sweet death and thereafter
Sweeping nightmares shalt feed

General Comment:Well, first off, to all of you who believe this song is a reference to Elizabethb Bathory, your wrong. Cradle would release a concept album based on the blood countess shortly after the album this song is featured on. This song is from "dusk and her embrace", which is loosely based round the writings of Sheridan Le Fanu. It lyrical themes are generated towards Vampirism, Dark romance and macabre love.

General Comment:Yeah, right. Some songs of Dusk, have reference of Bathory, Like A Gothic Romance. This song is about a fucking that screws with a bitchy witch, and the witch is kill by killers, hehehe. But while she dies when burning, she curses their killers "Eyes full of curses for her killers by choice.."

General Comment:First, the title is a pun of Lewis Carroll's book, Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to Alice in Wonderland.

"If it's on Dusk and Her Embrace, It's about Elizabeth Bathory."

You have your albums mixed up. Cruelty and the Beast is about Bathory, not Dusk.

General Comment:I saw this as being almost a proto-Her Ghost In The Fog. A lover killed by vengeful men of the church because she was (or was thought to be) a witch.

"Eyes full of curses for her killers by choice
Who fell to their god o'er her vision and voice"

These are the lines that really give me that impression. I'm not saying it's got the same narrative as Her Ghost, because the 'sky dressed in flames' does seem to suggest burning, but there are similarities, as indeed there are between this, Her Ghost and Of Mist and Midnight Skies.

General Comment:A man tormented by the murder of his lover (by being burned alive) awaits the coming of a vampire to transform him so as he can seek revenge. Well that's it in my mind anyway.

General Comment:This song got big time play in Australia, most of it by radio shows getting it wrong. Because of the inclusion of Nocturnal Supremacy '96 on Duck... as an unlisted track 5 (?) the order of tracks thereafter was slightly out of whack. So if you followed the track listing on the sleeve to play the title track, you got this one instead. This song was actually included on a compilation released by radio station triple j and listed as being 'dusk... and her embrace'. Shows how much attention djs pay to what they play I guess.

General Comment:I would just like to throw out an Idea... maybe it's got nothing to do with an actual death or a killer.... maybe it's about Dani's or the narrator's love for the night thus "She died to a sky dressed in flame" and "Awaiting the sun to set"

General Comment:Hmmm, obviously about lost love. But maybe
'She died to a sky dressed in flame'
Might intend a sunrise, meaning death to a vampire.
Perhaps the song is about a man morning the death of a vampire?
Personally, I think songs like this are art. And art is meant to be whatever you get out of it
