One time a thing occurred to me
What's real and what's for sale
Blew a kiss and tried to take it home

It isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline

Two times and it has rendered me
Punch drunk and without bail
Think I'd be safer all alone

Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep getting stuck here all the time

It isn't you, isn't me

You'll see the look
And you'll see the lies
You'll eat the lies
And you will

Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep getting stuck here all the time

It isn't you, isn't me

General Comment:The song is about being stuck. Being trapped in a situation, you want to leave but can't find the strength, like a fly that lands in vasoline and is stuck in the gel and cant free it's se;f. In this case I think is specifically in Scotts case i think it is talking about drugs (at the time) hold on him.

General Comment:This is fascinating. It's like a Rorschach test. Some of the songs commented on might as well be random words or nonsense syllables and people just project what is in their own heads onto it. Which is great because it allows people's favorite music to evolve as they do. When I was 5 and heard Simon & Garfunkel's "Silent Night/7 o'clock News" I heard a Christmas song. At 12, it was something different entirely. Obviously the lyrics are existential about how we all are totally screwed no matter what we do. It isn't in the song but if you extrapolate, life is a fatal disease. It's a variant on the cliche about a "fly in the ointment" in which a small speck ruins the larger whole. In this reversal, we are stuck in the traps of the larger whole.

General Comment:Goddammit this song isnt about fapping. I'd like to think Weiland is a bit deeper of a songwriter than that...

General Comment:Life is the air, we are the flies, the vasoline is the thickness of lies and thoughts that trap us into one part of our life, unable to move forward and see ahead (considering vasoline's opacity). We still want to fly, since we are flies, so we struggle to get out of the thick, only to submerge deeper.

General Comment:Someone before wrote about masturbation. Maybe, but I think this song is about being stuck to some woman. We're just "flies in the Vaseline." MEN ARE STUCK TO WOMEN. We fly around until the good stuff hooks us, and then we can't escape.

But it's dark: women know they have this power. They know we can't escape. They say we are the one's giving them sorrow, but in fact, they can just stop giving us "pleasure," which makes us desperate flies, and so we fly back to the sticky stuff, and eventually, we're stuck physically and emotionally.

We crave it, but in the end, it tastes like nothing...

Song Meaning:The song is a referance to the saying "theres a fly in the ointment" whitch means like "we've got a difficult problem." like in the song "flys in the ointment we are.." so it might mean we all have a common problem and the other lyrics might hint that.
