Lyrics for Interstate Love Song as interpreted by dsfire

Interstate Love Song Lyrics
Waitin' on a sunday afternoon for what I've read between the lines - Your lies
Feelin' Like a hand in rusted shame. So do you laugh or does it cry - Reply?

Leavin' On a southern train only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be only watched the time go by
All of these things you said to me

Breathing Is the hardest thing to do with all I've said and all that's dead for
you
You lied - Goodbye

Leavin' on a southern train only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be only watched the time go by
All of these things I said to you

It's a great song, i love it to death, but the lyrics are lacking, as is common in most stp songs. not that i dont love the band, you guys rock, but its nothing earth-shattering, simply good, solid rock.

Basically I think this song is about Scott lying to his wife or girlfriend when he would be on the road. Saying things like he sober but really is not and other lies. Thats just my opinion, I could be wrong

"Waiting on a Sunday afternoon
for what I read between the lines,
your lies."...could that mean she wrote him a letter? telling which of how she lied?
His girlfriend or whoever must have lied to him and ruined everything that they had or would of had. He doesnt seem to be looking back and is sure that he doesnt want anything to do with her now. And when he says "all thats dead to you" probley symbolizing the relationship that is now in ruins?? maybe i dunno. But its one hell of a good song either way.

This song is great. I believe there is no meaning, it's basically some of Wieland's herion babble from back in the day. :)

I think i remember hearing a million years ago or something on tv, that scott wrote the song about being on the road and lying about being clean. Im not sure...anyone have any thoughts on this?

it may be 'lacking in lyrics' but this definitely one of the great STP songs.. the guys are great in concert.. and there are talks of a new album due out next summer.. they turned down ozzfest this year to work on it, so lets hope for a summer/fall tour!!

this song is incredible...how could anyone say the lyrics are 'lacking'??? the lyrics are great! i mean, he uses a lot of great metaphors like 'southern train', 'rusted shame', 'sunday afternoon'...what's great is that while he writes down a vision of his own, almost anyone can relate to it...whether it's about escaping a relationship, problems with addiction, whatever...it's clear to me that the song is simply about personal freedom - learning to let go of certain things to make way for other things which are more valuable to your life; and big time kudos to robert deleo for writing the music - man what an unforgettable melody and an abolutely perfect choice of chords - you da man rob!! i will never get over how great this song is

GREAT song, but somebody needs to tell STP that acoustic doesn't necessarily mean slow.

Seriously underrated lyrics. It's about the freedom that comes from leaving a girl you can't trust. He knows she's lying to him, and he's trying to get her to speak about it but she won't. Eventually he gives up: "With all I've said and all that's dead to you. You Lied. Good-bye." The most curious line is the last where he half-admits maybe he wasn't so innocent in the relationship's demise.

Still a great song, and even more fun to play.

I think davidecoyote has it right, and I'd like to just add that there is an obvious blame game going back and forth between them. She must resent him for many things as well, I think he must have made one last full fledged attempt to get them through the trouble and finally through his hands up in disgust and weeriness of an endless cycle between them. I think Scott is an incredible thinker, it's not wonder he was consumed by heroin, most truely talented people are afflicted by something, whether it be drugs or mental disorders.

I don't understand why people say this song is "lacking" in its lyrics. It's one of the best tunes ever written. People need to give Weiland and STP a little more respect. Aside from all that, the video for this song is classic because it captures a timeless moment. I really hope Weiland stays away from the needle so these guys can get back together in the future.

Def. lacking in the lyrics department... Dont get me wrong, I like the song a good bit, but i mean come on... you have to admit the lyrics arent the greatest.. The stone temple pilots do deserve a lil more credit than they recieve though, I mean they arent the COMPLETE ripoff everyone claims, def can see their influences and def not he most original, but hey they make good songs and need a lil more credit
