I'd rather chase your shadow all my life
Than be afraid of my own
I'd rather be with you

I'd rather not know
Where I'll be than be alone and convinced that I know
And the world keeps spinning 'round

My world's upside down and I wouldn't change a thing
I've got nothing else to lose
I lost it all when I found you and I wouldn't change thing

No you and I wouldn't change a thing
Everything I know has let me down
So I will just let go

Let you turn me inside out
Cause I know I'm not sure
About anything but you wouldn't have it any other way

And the world keeps spinning 'round
My world's upside down and I wouldn't change a thing
I've got nothing else to lose

I lost it all when I found you and I wouldn't change thing
No you and I wouldn't change a thing
Spinning, turning, watching, burning

All my life has found its meaning
Walking, crawling, climbing, falling
All my life has found its meaning

You and I wouldn't change a thing
No you and I wouldn't change a thing
And the world keeps spinning 'round

My world's upside down and I wouldn't change a thing
I've got nothing else to lose
I lost it all when I found you and I wouldn't change thing

No you and I wouldn't change a thing
No you and I wouldn't change a thing

General Comment:I honestly think this song is about him having his first child. It's funny because that's almost immediately what I interpreted when I first heard it, but no one here has referenced this idea. Perhaps becoming a father has turned his world upside down and given him new perspectives on life - especially the verse:

    Walking
    Crawling
    Climbing
    Falling
All my life has found it's meaning

I feel like he's watching his little one and sees new meaning for his life and new hope. I'm not a parent so I can't say I have any experience, lol, but this is just my interpretation.

General Comment:this song has so many meanings. lifehouse create they're songs that can flex around peoples minds. its a very flexible song, unlike some other songs that has so straight to the point meaning, the way they compose they're song is really deep, and so complex.

General Comment:Alright. Let's get things straightened out. Martina McBride is NOT a Christian-Country Artist, yet still sings about God. Switchfoot is a well-known Christian rock band, and I can't recall one song of theirs that mentions God or Jesus. Being a Christian rock band doesn't mean you sing about God and Jesus, and it also doesn't mean you don't sing about girls. Basically, a Christian Artist is one that can sing songs that are clean - meaning no swears, no discrimination, and no talking about [[doing]] drugs or alcohol. It is VERY possible that Lifehouse is a Christian band and there is NOTHING wrong with that!

General Comment:I agree with Harusame, i think it's about still loving a girl that recently had broke up with him, and that he still cares about her, and isn't sure if their going to get abck together.

General Comment:I always thought this song was about a girl until I actually looked at the lyrics. I'm definitely positive, though, that this song is about his (Jason's) relationship with God. The people who've read the lyrics and say that it's not about God obviously don't know that much about Christianity. To wolfwood1013 — you're right. There's no ultimate risk (aside from things in this world) in a relationship with God, but as sinners, we view living a godly life as a risk (like missing out on "fun" things that are actually sinful, or being ridiculed or even killed for your beliefs). Here's how I interpret this song (with the correct lyrics):

"I'd rather chase your shadow all my life
than be afraid of my own
    I'd rather be with you
    I'd rather not know
    where I'll be than
be alone and convinced that I know"

This is sort of self-explanatory in my opinion. If you're atheist, then aren't you convinced that people are alone in the world and that you "know" that God doesn't exist? He's saying he wants to be with God and follow in His footsteps.

"and the world keeps spinning round
    my world's upside down
    and I wouldn't change a thing
I've got nothing else to lose
I lost it all when I found you
    and I wouldn't change a thing
no, you and I wouldn't change a thing"

To be able to understand this, you have to know more about Christianity than a lot of people do. When you are saved, earthly things become meaningless to you, because you're walking with God. So in a sense, it's very true that when you find God, you lose everything you thought you knew. Everything that really matters becomes clear, and the rest just fades away. Remember, this is all figurative.

"everything I know has let me down
so I will just let go
let you turn me inside out
cause I know I'm not sure
    about anything
but you wouldn't have it any other way"

This is even more self-explanatory than the first verse. If you place your hope in earthly things, then you will be constantly let down. When you let go of earthly things and place your hope in God, it's the opposite — if you're saved, then you're looking forward to heaven, and you'll definitely get there. When he says "let you turn me inside out," he means that he's ready to let God use him. I view the last three liines of this part like this: deep down in his heart he knows that God is real and Christianity is right, but his head is often clouded with doubt. You have to let your faith break through that doubt. This is probably true in any Christian's case; it is in mine, anyway.

    "spinning turning watching burning
all my life has found its meaning
    walking crawling climbing falling
all my life has found its meaning"

This is the easiest part. He's a witness now to God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit (he's saved), which enables him to see the the meaning of life and the reason for living.

There. That's what I get out of this song. It may not be exactly what he wrote it about (it's definitely has to do with God, though), but I'm almost positive it is. When I first looked at the words to this song, it immediately made me think of the Bible. In fact, this song basically explains the gist of what it is to be saved/found. If you're not saved then you might not get this, because the Bible ONLY makes sense to you if you're saved. If you read the Bible and you're not saved, you probably won't gain anything from it.

General Comment:So, obviously lifehouse is a Christian band, even without knowing the name of their previous band "Blyss." Anyway, I know a lot of the songs are religiously related, but not all of them are. I'd like to think this song is about hitting rock bottom, but being with someone who means so much that it doesn't make a difference.

General Comment:No this has absolutely nothing to do with God....because this song is about risks in a relationship, with "God" as you guys call it...there's no risk in being involved with this religion.

There's not a chance that "God" as you call him will backstab you or go his own way...if you insist there's risks in that matter I'm just going to laugh.

This band has nothing to do with religion, esspecially not this song, you don't lose everything when you are part of a lousy religion. The only thing you lose is your soul's free will and time.

    General Comment:THANK YOU, ASTRORUNNER.

You're the first person I agree with in this entire line of posts. It's NOT about God (personally I find it annoying when Christians try to connect everything to God, but hey, whatever floats your boat). I think he just god dumped, and he's just sorta pondering it. At the beginning of the song, he desperately wants to go back to the way things were, and for her to take him back.

"I'd rather chase your shadow all my life
Than be afraid of my own
    I'd rather be with you
    I'd rather not know
    Where I’ll be
and be alone and convinced that I know..."

It seems to me that she might have wanted to break it off for a while, and he sort of suspected it, but he wishes that he could just go back and be oblivious. Ignorance is bliss, basically. Go on with her and not know that she secretly doesn't want to. He's also wondering why he stays after this girl, after what she did to him.

"When the world keeps spinning round
    My world’s upside down
    And I wouldn't change a thing
I’ve got nothing else to lose
I lost it all when I found you
    And I wouldn't change a thing
No, you and I wouldn't change a thing..."

He realizes now that it's not worth it. Sounds like, looking at the rest of the song, that the breakup was kind of rocky, and he wouldn't change a thing now, because he knows that the way it turned out is the way it should have. The line "I lost it all when I found you" suggests that he realizes that the whole thing was a lost cause from the get-go, and that he shouldn't worry about it. She's taken everything from him, though.

"Everything I know has let me down
So I will just let go
Let you turn me inside out
Because I know I'm not sure
    About anything
But you wouldn't have it any other way
When the world keeps spinning round
    My world’s upside down
    And I wouldn't change a thing
I’ve got nothing else to lose
I lost it all when I found you
    And I wouldn't change a thing
No, you and I wouldn't change a thing..."

She's killing him inside, but he's telling himself that he'll take it and be okay. He wouldn't change a thing. He's letting go, detaching himself. He doesn't want what happened to him to happen again, so he's putting up walls.

    "Spinning
    Turning
    Watching
    Burning
All my life has found it's meaning
    Walking
    Crawling
    Climbing
    Falling
All my life has found it's meaning..."

The bridge here doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe he's still thinking about her, and going, "Wait! My life found meaning with her! Why dd it end up like this? Let me back!"

Finally though, he comes back to the same conclusion: he wouldn't change a thing.

Also, flala, that line can be interpreted many ways. I personally think that the word "you" is used in both sentences, so he's both saying "found you" and "you and I," but just useing one makes the song work rhythmically. That's not the first time an artist has done that. It's actually quite common.

No matter how you interpret this song: getting together, breaking up, God (by the way, my earlier comment was not intended as a diss on you Christians, I was just putting forth my opinion), this is a KICK ASS SONG.

General Comment:this song is a great one to listen to no matter what mood youre in.
i think its about a guy who got out of a relationship with a girl, and really regretted it. at first, he tried wanted her back so much, but after a while, he realized, that neither of them would change what had happened to them after breaking up.
