The test begins, now
I thought I was smart, I thought I was right
I thought it better not to fight, I thought there was a
Virtue in always being cool, so when it came time to
Fight I thought I'll just step aside and that the time would
Prove you wrong and that you would be the fool

I don't know where the sun beams end and the star
Lights begins it's all a mystery

Oh to fight is to defend if it's not
Now than tell me when would be the time that you would stand up
And be a man, for to lose I could accept but to surrender
I just wept and regretted this moment, oh that I, I
Was the fool

I don't know where the sun beams end and the star
Lights begins it's all a mystery
And I don't know how a man decides what right for his
Own life, it's all a mystery

Cause I'm a man not a boy and there are things
You can't avoid you have to face them when you're not prepared
To face them,
If I could I would but you're with him now it'd do no good
I should have fought him but instead I let him, I let
Him take it

I don't know where the sun beams end and the star
Lights begins it's all a mystery
And I don't know how a man decides what right for his
Own life, it's all a mystery

The test is over, now

General Comment:Wonderful track and band....about a man's struggles to find his way in life while he marches to his own drumbeat...

General Comment:I don't know the overall theme of 'YBtPR' but this song (to me) has some very big hints about death, and the mystery behind it. How we're supposed to feel about it. You wanna fight 'God' not to take a loved one, but you're powerless. You run it over and over through your head, thinking if there was something you could have done. Death is unexpected; you have to face it when you're not prepared to.

Don't shoot me. This is just my opinion, and I think everyone is entitled to interpret songs to their liking ...and about the Cat Stevens thing... just drop it.

General Comment:Don't you all think Wayne Coyne is smart enough to write a song that means many of these things all at once? He's a pretty dimensional thinker.

General Comment:I felt this song was the son from Cat Steven's Father and Son making a mistake about something.. My first instinct was going to war. That was the reason why the father told his son not to go. But then i reconsidered and thought, no maybe the son was just fighting with the father. that's the reason why he had to go. but in the end, he gave in and now the son regrets it because he is no longer in control of his own life.

Song Meaning:I find it funny that no one has commented on teh meaning behind this song! This is one of their most filled songs and talks about something that is sooooo clutch in todays society. Although i do believe that the "fight" is a parallel to something I am going to chose to look at it as an actual fight.

It just shows how our modern culture works. Everyone is prepared to fight and wishes to be the tough guy but when it comes down to it everyone is scared---the parallel is war. Just like 311 once said "you front and try to act hard, because your scared that someone might pull your card"
