Lyrics for Art Star as interpreted by artstar

Art Star Lyrics
I've been working on a piece that speaks of sex and desperation
I've been screwing on the tracks of abandoned train stations

Art star
Art star
Art star
Art star

Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do

Art star
Art star
Art star
Art star

I got a dealer in Tokyo
I got a rep in Paris
I got an agent in Cologne
Shit, I got a gallery in New York
It's a madhouse, this modern life
It's a madhouse, my faithless bride

Art star
Art star
Art star
Art star

Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do

When this song hits I can just imagine little teenies singing the "do, do, do" part in the back of a car all over america.

Her voice is a womens voice that remarkably sounds good when she screams.

this song simply makes fun of "artsy-fartsy" types who feel the need to act like complete morons to be considered "artists". plain and simple, not hard, folks.

When I first heard this song I couldn't stop laughing at how the tone changes go, I was just listening and this guy in the backround starts counting 1 2 3 4 then she freaks and goes rigth back into do do's. Really makes you think, wait no it doesn't.

I love the fact that this song makes fun of artsy fartsy people.....because they fucking suck. I know someone who goes to PRATT (nyc) SVA(nyc) and SUNY purchase (ny) and every party there is such fucking terrible ridiculousness that goes on. I want to play this song for them.

i think karen o's scream goes up there with, like, jacob bannon as being one of the best screams ever. right behind black francis.

Mockery or modern "art". Reminds me of No Culture Icons by The Thermals.

^_^ I like this one depicting the life of the aristocratic artist. I know everyone in the bad are artist so my guess is this is their life if they didnt choose music!!

I don't know if this changes the meaning of the song at all, but there used to be a famous quarterback for the Greenbay Packers named Bart Star, as apposed(sp) to Art Star.

Oh, and Karen O says FAITHLESS bride, not fatal bride.

i have NO IDEA how karen achieves the screaming of "art star". i've tried to duplicate it, and though im surely no match, i'm convinced that she's the only person who can make that sound. i love this song. :)

i don't guess she completely hates "artsy fartsy" types.

she went to NYU
as a film major.

I think on one level the song is the contrast between the true artist and the fake artist, with the poppy verse being the "fake artist" and the anguished chorus being the "true artist".

However another level of irony may also be present if one considers that the poppy verse may be ultimately more (subjectively) pleasant to listen to than the bludgeoning chorus.

Another possibility is that one part is the inside of the artist and the other is the outside.

Maybe Karen O is a songwriting genius who fully intended the song to work on all of these levels. I didn't like this song much when I first heard it, but it has grown on me, as only the best music does. My other fave is "Miles Away".
