Lyrics for Clean Up Before She Comes as interpreted by grunge_loser

Clean Up Before She Comes Lyrics
Clean up before she comes (x5)
Living in a dusty town (x3) (Alt: Living in a dusty dump)
Something in her eyes
Must be the smoke from my lungs
Something in her eyes
Must be the smoke from my lungs

I must be getting old
I must be getting older
I'm starting to eat my vegetables
Something in her eyes
Must be the smoke from my lungs
Something in her eyes
Must be the smoke from my lungs

Clean up the dusty town
Living in a dusty town (x3)
Clean up before she comes (x3)
Living in a dusty town

I must be getting old (Alt: Getting older)
I must be getting old (Alt: Ate my vegetables)

I'm starting to eat my vegetables

this song is self explanatory... this IS a good acoustic song. the guitar sounds similar to the one in moist vagina...

This song is about when Kurt lived with Tracy, and she'd leave him notes to clean and shit before she came home. It was almost like she was like his mother, but he need to be guided and stuff, so he was alright with that, which is what the "i'm starting to eat my vegetables" reminds me of.

Actually, this song is a Huddy Ledbetter cover that has nothing to do with Tracy or Kurt--Huddie Ledbetter otherwise known to Nirvana fans as Lead Belly (In The Pines).

Are you sure it's Ledbelly's? Because that doesn't sound much like his style. I believe Kurt wrote it. It is a very good song.

Just to try and clear this up this song was written by kurt cobain early in the band's life. It's just him screwing around on his 4 track. I've no idea of what it's about though

i think this song tells about the way you try to clean up before youre mother comes into the room, hiding the cigaretts and stuff. Trying to look inocent, but you can see in her eyes that she knows something is wrong. Something in her eyes
Must be the smoke from my lungs= she can smell the cigaretts.

you've tried to hid everything, sprayed yourself with perfume so she wouldnt smell, but she knows. Something in her eyes
Must be the smoke from my lungs. Eat veegetables is trying to look inocent.

no, i think kurtcobain_elvis is right on. this is an earlier song, so i do think its about when kurt lived with traci. they didnt really have a normal relationship since kurt didnt really have a steady job, and traci worked everyday. she was like a mother to him.

Dude. So I support both theories (Tracy & mum), but I think it's from a relationship (read: tracy). Like, there's something in her eyes is him, and the smoke from his lungs is his air, but for her, it's smoke (or something bad/toxic). I don't explain my thoughts well, but whatever.

I love the box set version of this song. I thought it was about how he loved the drugs/ciggarettes
and someone he was with was against him taking them so he has to clean up before she gets home and then she is suspicious hence the something in her eyes. Maybe the getting older and eating vegetables is about how he feels hes being treated like a child so hes taking the piss out of her. Like hes telling her hes being healthier and then getting stoned of his face while shes away!!!!

This song is totally about Tracey Marander and how she used to leave him notes to clean up the house before she came home. kurtcobain_elvis, you're totally right. and kurt never used to eat vegetables he ate very poorly ...which could have been one of the causes of his horrible stomach pains, dave krist and tracey always used to tell him to eat vegetables.

It's a Kurt Cobain song. He wrote it. And yeah, it's about how he would have to clean up while his then girlfriend would go out or something.
The vocals meld together really well on this, and it's definitely a favorite Nirvana song of mine.
