Icing on a cake sounds to me like I sing on a cake. I'm not sure if it's coincidental but I find it hard to believe he would include the word cake in a song with out it being significant.
This guy mentions mattress a couple times on the album. I always wondered why he used it instead of bed, since it isn't used to rhyme.
I agree with luckycharms. Daria is clearly trying to fix him and he's adamant that she will not fix him. Maybe he doesn't believe he can ever be fixed (get better or be loved or whatever), or maybe he just wants to fix himself. But the one thing he's clear about is the fact that he doesn't want her to fix him. He wants to be her lover not her project. And she just can't get that. So after much frustration and miscommunication, she gave up.
We women are always sort of trying to "change" men to suit what it is we really want, and it looks like Daria found a man she couldn't change, one who flat out refused to change, and hey, she's probably better off without him.
