That's the story of my life
That's the difference between wrong and right
But, Billy said, Both those words are dead
That's the story of my life

General Comment:I love how each song means something different to each person, based on their own views and passed experiences. This song is why I love music.

General Comment:But that is the beuty of this song to me, it's the story of something that large groups of people really like and can relate to this music. It has something for much people. I don't know what i'm saying, but man, i'm really feeling Sterling Morrison's sound, great guitar playing for me.

And it invites me to use my imagination, i love this song.

General Comment:I don't see how you see it as depressing, and I don't know why you assume that the 2 dead words he's talking about are wrong and right. Just sitting here I can make these 4 great lines mean a million things to me.

General Comment:nobody's ever written such a distantly depressing song in only four lines.

General Comment:I love how this song seems to go in a circle. The story of his life is the difference between wrong and right and Billy said those words are dead and that is also the story of his life. Thus every line is every other line. It makes me dizzy.

General Comment:The Billy mentioned in ths song refers to Billy Name who was the Factory's unofficial photographer, Andy Warhol's boyfriend, and later Lou Reed's. During the Factory years Lou Reed and Billy Name were interested in matters of the occult and Billy would often state things like that. When Billy Name locked himself in the Factory's darkroom for a year (letting only Lou Reed and a few others in) Lou Reed claimed that he regretted ever getting Billy interested in astrology and magic.
