This song makes me feel good for just beings me. Fuck what everyone else wants me to do. I do what I want to do and they should be able to cope with that. Who cares if he people in my school don't like the way I dress or like the music I listen to at least I'm not like them following eachother like sheep and listening to music that has no meanng just to fit in.

no, blueme makes a LOT of sense.
all these people now-a-days that think they are punk are full of shit. punk has evolved from a loose rebellious lifestile slash music genre to clothes and an all around conformist trend. it's almost sad. the point being, do what you like, buy what you like, and listen to what you like reguardless of what other people do or don't do. don't worry about fittin on or being an outsider.

This is real punk, unlike that Avril Lavigne shit. The point of punk is to be the minority. You should be yourself instead of being what everyone wants you to be, then you'll be the minority, instead of being an Avril wannabe!(not that many ppl on this page are Avril's, just a peeve)

I have one question. What about the line "down with the MORAL majority"? I hear both sarcasm and sincerity in this song. Is it saying the "moral" majority is not really moral, or that it may be but it doesn't matter, just wanting to "rebel" for the sake of standing out (rejecting anything widely accepted, whether or not it's ethical?) and even then, conforming (i.e. to the "punk" scene)? I like the line "the only way I know". Do what feels right, whether or not "mainstream" or "underground" society approve, whether you end up fitting in or standing out. Did that make any sense whatsoever?

I love it when my parents aren't home and I can blast this at full volume in the living room and jump around screaming the lyrics to the wonderfully encouraging beat. Nothing is better for beating the blues, and all comments were right on target about the meaning being that it's better to be different, and you don't want to be like everyone else. I WANNA BE THE MINORITY! (and people call green day pop instead of classifying them as punk...tell me how that is possible when the message of this song is pure punk, which is basically doing your own thing.)

I don't see the relationship to Jimmy Eat World's The Middle, but okay...

Anyway, this is a great song... it's about doing what you wanna do, following your own heart, and not giving a damn what anyone else thinks. Best lines of the song, to me, are "One light, one mind, flashing in the dark / Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts" That's just a really cool image... everyone else blinded by the evils of society, and one person awakening to individuality. Gotta love that. :-)
