I want to be the minority. Its a really empowering song. I don't want to be everyone else....I want to be me. So screw you guys. It really makes me feel good to hear this song....prolly cuz I live in a rich town and on top of that most people suck anyways.

its a true punk song classic, god its telling the truth so perfectly. It's saying "be yourslef", which a lot of people need to do.

this is the song that always makes me feel better, no matter what. I love green day so much. They just have their own way, and dont take shit from anybody. I admire them deeply for that kind of attitude. I just wish i could tell that to their face.

I don't see the relationship to Jimmy Eat World's The Middle, but okay...

Anyway, this is a great song... it's about doing what you wanna do, following your own heart, and not giving a damn what anyone else thinks. Best lines of the song, to me, are "One light, one mind, flashing in the dark / Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts" That's just a really cool image... everyone else blinded by the evils of society, and one person awakening to individuality. Gotta love that. :-)

I love it when my parents aren't home and I can blast this at full volume in the living room and jump around screaming the lyrics to the wonderfully encouraging beat. Nothing is better for beating the blues, and all comments were right on target about the meaning being that it's better to be different, and you don't want to be like everyone else. I WANNA BE THE MINORITY! (and people call green day pop instead of classifying them as punk...tell me how that is possible when the message of this song is pure punk, which is basically doing your own thing.)

yea, this song does have the same message as jimmy eat world.....but this song is cool too....its one of the only god songs on warning...but anywho......this song rocks, and so does greenday

I have one question. What about the line "down with the MORAL majority"? I hear both sarcasm and sincerity in this song. Is it saying the "moral" majority is not really moral, or that it may be but it doesn't matter, just wanting to "rebel" for the sake of standing out (rejecting anything widely accepted, whether or not it's ethical?) and even then, conforming (i.e. to the "punk" scene)? I like the line "the only way I know". Do what feels right, whether or not "mainstream" or "underground" society approve, whether you end up fitting in or standing out. Did that make any sense whatsoever?
