Lyrics for Walking By as interpreted by LittleNemo

Walking By Lyrics
Your grand dad left home for the circus
He was young just like me,
with hope to explore
He married a girl in Virginia
She could swing the trapeze,
they could sleep on the floor

Your mother was born in December,
on the one sunny day that winter gave up
With warm summer eyes that flickered like fireflies,
and she stared at the world

So why do you leave these stories unfinished,
my Cheshire cat doorstop with tears in your eyes?
And why do you look when you've already found it?
And what did you find that would leave you walking by?

She was raised in a New England village
Then she moved to LA with her firefly stare,
and you loved sunset strip when it sparkled
You grew up and you sparkled, but why don't you care?

And why do you leave these stories unfinished,
my Cheshire cat doorstop with tears in your eyes?
And why do you look when you've already found me?
And what did you find that would leave you walking by?

And these nights I get high just from breathing
When I lie here with you I'm sure that I'm real
like that firework over the freeway
I could stay here all day but that's not how you feel

So why do you leave these questions unanswered?
The circus awaits and you're already gone
My Cheshire cat doorstop with fear in your smile,
what makes it so easy for you to be walking by?
And what did I do that you can't seem to want me?
And why do we lie here and whisper goodbyes?
Where can I go that your pictures won't haunt me?
What makes it so easy for you to be walking by?
Walking by

this and Konstantine are my favorite SC songs...I agree with everybody about the high notes. He sounds so incredibly sad. :( I love the lyrics about eyes and flickering like fireflies, "firefly stare." I love that. You really can see the images.

this song is just heartbreaking. I think this girlie DOES have wanderlust ... and although she loves singerboy, she just needs to get out. my heart aches for him.

I love the line, "and what did I do that you can't seem to want me?" I have felt that way so many times. Like I could have done something to make someone stay or want me ...

I love SOCO....I think this song is very good but I agree. Konstantine is better. You should also check out "If I Die". They rocked at Warp Tour. If your a fan of these guys you should also check out "GSF" by MXPX and Alkaline Trio...."Radio" and "Sorry About That"

to me, this song is about a relationship that at one point felt like destiny for both involved. i get the notion that the narrator is not giving up on the love even though the other person has. he understands his lover more than she problems understands herself; she is unwilling to surrender to their perfect fate. the two lovers were meant to be together just as her grandparents were meant to be (thus the circus references) but she is only walking by. he feels complete and content with her around; he thinks that has found the love of his life while she is still looking for hers--"why do you look when you've already found it." unfortunately he is not enough for her and all he is left with is the constant reminders of her.
incredible saddness...

this song along with the majority of all SoCo songs are just amazing. obviously konstantine is one of my favorites, along with Babies of the 80s. i love the lyrics to that song.
"So why do you leave these stories unfinished, my Cheshire cat doorstop with tears in her eyes? Why do you look when you’ve already found me?"
I love that because it's asking how can you leave me when we have so much we haven't done.... the second line there well I am not sure what it means. Could mean a lot of things I guess- like why are you looking for some one else when you already have me right here.

This song is one of my favorite ever by SoCo. The words are amazingly beautiful and the sound of the song can just make you cry. When you hear this song it is as if the world completely stops and the song wraps you in. You can't help but sit and think and wonder.

I also cry when a song touches my heart. I can relate to this song because of the heart break, and everytime I listen to it, I think of that person that I love and it kills me to know that it doesn't work. Others have their reasons for crying. As do you. And why do you hate your life? And I'd love to hear your songs if they mean that much to you...

okay, i guess ill add my thoughts before everyone discovers how great this song really is! first of all, i think that its awesome the way that he starts out by telling us about her family. its like she is so great that in order to understand how wonderful she is, we need to know the amazing people she came from to understand how amazing she is! then, after we know how awesome she is, he spends the rest of the song telling us abut how hei s in love with her, and she does not care about him like that. he is asking her, why she cant feel the way he does. i think the line...why do you look when you have already found me....is telling. he is like, you are enough for me, why am i not what you are looking for too? basically, its like he shows us how good he thinks she is, and then tells us how she does not want him. thats why it hurts soooo much. he sees how easy it is for her to not care for him, and here he is traped by her face! this song makes me hurt. i hope this made sence to someone....sorry if it doesnt

"What did I do that you can't seem to want me" breaks my heart every time I hear it. This was the song that made me fall in love with this band. All the others on the EP were nice and all, and I've since grown to love them all, but when this one came on, I was just mesmorized. I sat in my car just crying by the end of it.

I talked to Andrew at the warped tour today in milwaukee and i asked him what the cheshire cat doorstop metaphor was about. he told me he use to actually have a cheshire cat doorstop in his house and someone once hit him in the head with it. he told the girl he was trying to date this story and she thought it was hilarious. so in alice in wonderland the cat kept dissappearing and reappearing and this was exactly how this girl acted towards him. so he wrote this song about that girl who is now currently his girlfriend.

when he sings "why don't you care".. it's so sad..and i love the line "what did i do, that you can't seem to want me" and.. "why do you look, when you've already found me?" its horrible, because i know how he feels.. like when you meet someone that you like so much, and they dont like you as much.. so they keep looking for someone else, and you don't know why you're not good enough..=(
