Lyrics for Walking By as interpreted by LittleNemo

Walking By Lyrics
Your grand dad left home for the circus
He was young just like me,
with hope to explore
He married a girl in Virginia
She could swing the trapeze,
they could sleep on the floor

Your mother was born in December,
on the one sunny day that winter gave up
With warm summer eyes that flickered like fireflies,
and she stared at the world

So why do you leave these stories unfinished,
my Cheshire cat doorstop with tears in your eyes?
And why do you look when you've already found it?
And what did you find that would leave you walking by?

She was raised in a New England village
Then she moved to LA with her firefly stare,
and you loved sunset strip when it sparkled
You grew up and you sparkled, but why don't you care?

And why do you leave these stories unfinished,
my Cheshire cat doorstop with tears in your eyes?
And why do you look when you've already found me?
And what did you find that would leave you walking by?

And these nights I get high just from breathing
When I lie here with you I'm sure that I'm real
like that firework over the freeway
I could stay here all day but that's not how you feel

So why do you leave these questions unanswered?
The circus awaits and you're already gone
My Cheshire cat doorstop with fear in your smile,
what makes it so easy for you to be walking by?
And what did I do that you can't seem to want me?
And why do we lie here and whisper goodbyes?
Where can I go that your pictures won't haunt me?
What makes it so easy for you to be walking by?

Andrew McMahon (lead singer of Something Corporate) played this song in a parking lot for me and 4 other kids. They are very dedicated to their fans and ought to be commmended.

i love this song so much, it's beautiful, with the violin and piano combination. i also *almost* cry when he hits the high notes. i especially like the verse right after the 2nd chorus (it's either 3rd or 4th). the one about getting high just from breathing, and then the last part. *babbling* sorry. i highly reccomend all the other something corporate songs also. most of them are very good.

I love this song sooo much...but I do have to say that the part that I felt said the most to me was when he's talking about his 'Cheshire Cat doorstop.' I got a mental image of a girl that the he loved so much, but who had to leave him, with a sad smile plastered on her face as she's 'walking by.' I don't know...the whole Cheshire cat thing just said so much...like even though it may be hurting her, too (not only him), she's got to keep up a plastic smile all the time, like the Cheshire cat. ((Perhaps she's got wander-lust, ^_^?))

i think that this song has some very genius and touching lines. "Your mother was born in December, on the one sunny day that winter gave up. She had warm summer eyes that flickered like fireflies, when she stared at the world. " just gives me this image of a woman who was beautiful and had this look of someone who had huge dreams... and this guy see's this in her daughter as well... i just think the imagery here is beautiful. Also the line that says "and what did you find that would leave you walking by"...i think thats a question that we've all wondered after heartbreak... its simply touching and beautiful

Im completely with the rest of u. I cant listen to this without crying. I can TOTALLY relate to it...losing love you both know is still there is the worst feeling in the world...especially when neither of you can tell the other person how you feel~its a horrible feeling but the song gives me comfort in knowing Im not alone.

I think the line that anyone who has ever been in love can relate to the most is "where can I go where your pictures won't haunt me". that sums up the broken heart!

I agree that everyone feels this way, if only we could get the courage up to show this to the people it reminds us of. Does anybody know the meaning of the lines about the Cheshire cat doorstop? its been bothering me for awhile now.
