Lyrics for Clocks as interpreted by BuckWilder

Clocks Lyrics
Lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh, I beg, I'm begging please
Singing: Come out, all things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
And a trouble that can't be named
The tiger's waiting to be tamed

Singing:
You are
You are

Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop what you now know
Singing: Come out upon my seas
Curse missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure
Or am I part of the disease?

Singing:
You are
You are
You are
You are

And nothing else compares
Oh, nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are
You are

I was listening to this song while driving in my car today and it just really helped me feel more alive for some reason. I had been in a pretty crappy mood until it came on for the second time and bang, something about it struck me.

This is one of those songs that you hear (The first time) in the radio or anyother place where you totally like it right away. Excellent lyrics. It's just a well fabricated song. Must say that it can be better than PARACHUTES!

This is the stand out track on the album for me - almost as good as the stuff on Parachutes.

i think that maybe what it may be about is "Cursed missed opportunities.." and he's done with that, and now he is gonna SEIZE this opportunity, y'know? ..like no more hesitation for him.. :) and by the sound of the music, it sounds almost like all this stuff he wrote about is an epiphany he just had.. **shrugs** hehe.. all in all, excellent song!

This is one of my first favourites off the disc. I like that Coldplay isn't afraid to rock out. Yeah, everyone loves their mellow songs, but they have such diversity.

I think their sound on this album is more akin to U2. I love this band dearly, but I can't listen to Chris Martin's songwriting much before I start getting jealous. I wish I could write songs like that.

My fave on the album. I like the meaning of the song because you can, as I do at least, interprete it in 2-3 ways. Maybe more even, but for me there are 3 ;)

I can never get tired of this song. I can kind of interpret it as him saying to someone that the clock ran out on them after they maybe broke up, and now its a missed opportunity.

This song means a lot to me. I loved Parachutes so I went to see them live last October. I really enjoyed the gig, their second last song was clocks. I hadn't heard it before, but when I heared it with the great green lasery lighting effects it really meant something. I really love the song tis my favourite Coldplay song now. :)

I absolutely adore Coldplay's music. This song is another example of the genius strategies that they use to write songs and compile the accompanying instrumentals. All of their music tends to put me in a dream-like state.

I can only speculate what I think it means. Maybe about all the inner confusion within himself, feeling guilty about missed oppurtunities....too late to change things he has done or take back things he has said. Also he's realizing and accepting he is who he is but he still struggles with it because he doesn't know if he's helping or hurting by being who he is (hence the part of the cure or the disease)....of course this is all my interpretation, I don't have my masters in psychology so I had to take a wild guess....I do know that I like it very much....especially played loud in my car on a starry night....I think..."that's my soul singing...out in the universe"....something like that anyway.

Hey, Carlos, it's really easy to figure out... It's in E flat major... You should probably be able to get it with that information.

Anyway, this song is great! And it has that tendency when you're pissed off or sad to make you extremely upbeat.

When people on songmeanings say something along the lines of "Ok, this isn't ilovethissong.net, it's songMEANINGS.net" it makes me sort of mad - when people express how much they love a song, I think they are expressing how much it MEANS to them. Everyone needs to chill about that.. It's not a big deal.

Brilliant song... the line "curse missed opportunities" really hits me hard.

Sometimes you hear a song and wonder "how did they do that? perfect in every way." this is just one of those songs.

Hey thanks "carms"...I was wondering about playing it on the piano too!! and I agree with you about the whole song "meanings" thing, it's no big deal....that's why I'm such a music lover...it connects all of us in some mysterious way...it's universal....even if our life circumstances aren't intertwined we've all "been there"...if that makes sense. What would the world be like without music....pains me to think about it!!
