The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town

You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere

You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

It's a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away

You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You're lovin' this town
Even if that doesn't ring true
You've been all over
And it's been all over you

It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day

Song Meaning:Bono: "a man who has lost everything, but finds joy in what he still has."

Beyond that, though, he reached out hopefully to her "in return for grace," but it didn't work out that way. Still, he knows he's "not a hopeless case," and, therefore, still has hope. He has hope and the memory of a beautiful day that he won't "let it get away." And that will be the grace he needs to sustain him. The beautiful day was enough.

General Comment:The band's just OK but this song is great...expecially when the weather was great, the appointments were special, the conversation was primo, and there is finally light at the end of a long, dark, disappointing tunnel. I wasted a f-ing long time on nothing, and finally the cloud is lifting and I can see blue skies again. Here's to more sunshine coming my way...as the song from childhood goes.

General Comment:Not a fan of the band's, but I like this song. It's a GREAT way to start the day. If ya woke up (alive, obviously); the sun is shining; there's a roof over your head; there's food in the fridge; and you have family a phone call away, than it IS a beautiful day!

General Comment:To me this is a song of happiness without any sense of deep thought of the future. Yes, right now we are happy in this vapid environment, but we don't take to heart all the things that are destroyed and polluted to make our "beautiful day" possible. Our "day" is only going to last for so long. We should all find a deeper meaning as to why we are actually here. We enjoy simply being alive, but we should make our time here mean so much more. Tuna fleets clearing the sea out...oil fields at first light...The fact that we can a block or two to fill our tanks and we never give a thought as to how that fuel reaches the station. We can only sustain our way of life for so long.

My Interpretation:This song is about communism. "The sky falls" refers to communism descending on each of us. "Touch me, take me to that other place Teach me, See china right in front of you" refers to educators teaching socialism (the first step to becoming more like china). "See the bird with the leaf in its mouth" really? why would the bald eagle switch to a leaf? research this one on you own and you might be surprised what you find. "What you don't have you don't need now" In other words what the government does not provide, you did not need in the first place. Think about it. Take it from someone who grew up in the 80's and sees things from a perspective of us defeating communism once and having to beat it back again. Bono makes no secret on his views of big government and socialism in general. This song is nothing but a subliminal message for communism. I would love here what bono has to say about it.
