Lyrics for Beautiful Day as interpreted by kevin

Beautiful Day Lyrics
The heart is a bloom,
Shoots up through the stony ground
But there's no room,
No space to rent in this town

You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care,
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere.

You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you can lend a hand
In return for grace
It's a beautiful day
The sky falls
And you feel like it's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away

You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You love this town
Even if it doesn't ring true
You've been all over
And it's been all over you

It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day

Touch me, Take me to that other place
Teach me, I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light, and
See the bird with the leaf in her mouth
After the flood, all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me, take me to that other place
Reach me, I know I'm not a hopeless case

What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day.

This is another very hopeful song done by U2. It's just saying that deep down, it IS indeed a beautiful day. And the lyrics "After the flood, all the colours came out" has become a personal motto for myself. It's something I always tell myself on a bad day. Of course, this song can get annoying if listened to ad nausea...but it's still a great optimistic song.

This song is awesome - And I disagree with the comment two above me. This song is not annoying, as a matter of fact, I plan to make a cover of it in a few years. I like the 80's stuff, too. "But I still....haven't found....what I'm looking for."

This song is just annoying. I know many people might find some sort of deep substance to it, but to me it just sounds like they're trying to score record sales by making people happy.

Well you can sell records by making people happy...that's why they buy...they enjoy the song....? Anyway, I like the song....sounds free and relaxed. True it's not the most spiritual deepest song ever, but it's still pretty good.

its just about seeing how wonderful the world can be by noticing the everyday things like just listening to a bird sing in a tree or a sun set, really beautiful things that most people dont give a thought to because they are so tied up with money and time.

This is a good song. Of course, with most of their songs, it's probably written about religion.(listen to the lyrics real close-you'll hear the proof) but you can take it to mean other things.

I like it.

Not to nitpick or anything, but the lyric is "You love this town," not "Love is tough" (that's "Please") ;)
Bono has said "Beautiful Day" is about a man who loses everything, yet he couldn't be happier. Take from that what you will...

I love this. This holds so much for me.. I was coming back from a weekend I'd spent seeing my best friend and my then girlfriend.. but before I got on the coach I spent an hour with my best friend and we hardly uttered a word but so much seemed to be said.. I realised she was the most beautiful creation I'd ever seen. I didn't know to smile or cry, and this song came on my walkman.. just summed up 100% how I was feeling. Amazing

This is a great song U2 said before Elevation came out that if they don't get a hit off this one they are down. Well They did that an then some U2 is truly one of the greatest bands of all time. They started out when they were 15 an 16 Larry was 14 still is sorry I had to say that. Ok well they are my favorite band an they will always be :D :) Ok now whats up with not having With or Without You on the comment board an "ONE" also those two songs are some of there best well anyways Have a Beautiful Day.

You have all missed the point it isn'tabout a friggin beautful day, the song is bloody sad! Look at the lyrics!
"You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination"
See its being ironic
It has nothing to do with a bloody beautiful day!

This really is a great song. I love a song that sends that kind of optimistic message. No point in listening to music that makes you feel down on yourself. It's like, "hey, the sky is falling but it's still a beautiful day." What a great message it sends.

Whoever thinks this is not the most spiritual of songs is mistaken I'm afraid.
Taken from "Walk on - the spiritual journey of U2" by Steve Stockman.

"Beautiful Day was an interesting opening track for All that you cant leave behind. The last track on U2's nineties catalog, as the entire world seemed caught up in a frenzy of apocalyptic doom and gloom, fearful about the ending of a millennium, was "Wake up dead man". It was as though Jesus was in the tomb after his cruxifixion, lifeless, with the disciples letting go of all hope. John Lennon's words "the dream is over" come to mind. "Beautiful Day" is like an ecstatic proclamation that Peter and James might have sung just after Mary had come back to the disciples' hiding place with the resurrection news. The biblical image used may be the dove going out from the ark to bring back the leaf that informed Noah that the old world had ended and a new one could begin. But even that depicts the whole celebratory mood of dead man waking up and a whole new Kingdom being birthed. The album and the Elevation tour would see a new resurrection shuffle of mood in the U2 camp."

I couldn't agree more!

I really love this song and I have to say that it really helps if you listen to it when you are gloomy or when you wake up and you have school

ok soadie bono is not trying to be ironic, he went through that phase already.
he is saying these bad things because its as if a person has been through a really tough time but then seen that his problems arent that significant and the beauty of the natural world is far more facinating.

I love the way this song starts out in Bono's semi-baratone voice, "the heart is a bloom". I've always liked his poetic lyrics. I'm sorry it took me a while to catch up w/their music. Then, the guitars strike and the enthusiastic chorus begins, telling us not to let the day or life, for that matter, get away from us. As everyone else already chimed, encouraging.

I just heard this song. I think it's a quasi-tribute to the famous Irish novel "Ulysses". The plot of "Ulysses" takes place all in one day hence the "Day" part of the song's title. The main character's name is Mr. Bloom and this song opens with "The heart is a bloom" - maybe that's a clue. The lyrics "You're on the road/But you've got no destination/You're in the mud/In the maze of her imagination" fit with the story in "Ulysses", too. Bloom spends most of the day wandering around the city of Dublin and events just kind of unfold. Also, the end line of the above verse could relate to the end chapter of the novel when Bloom's wife is in bed and her thoughts are represented as a continuous, unpunctuated ramble. It fits with the phrase "In the maze of her imagination" because the chapter deals with the wife's thoughts of her and her husband, and it's hard to understand what's going on when you read it; just like a confusing maze. By the way, the phrase "Spanish eyes" is used a lot in the novel "Ulysses", and it also happens to be the title of another U2 song.

I was just thinking of this song. I think it relates to the famous Irish novel "Ulysses". The plot of Ulysses takes place all in one day hence the "Day" in the song title. Also, the lyrics "You're on the road/But you've got no destination/You're in the mud/In the maze of her imagination" totally make sense: Bloom spends most of his day just wandering around Dublin with no real destination in mind. The last line of those lyrics also could refer to the end chapter of "Ulysses". In that chapter, Bloom's wife thinks about her and her husband's past, but the whole thing is in a continuous, unpunctuated stream. It's really hard to read and I can see how it could be thought of as a maze. By the way, the phrase "Spanish eyes" is used by Bloom to describe his wife, and it also happens to be the title of another U2 song.

'Beautiful Day' is about having faith through the bad times. The religious symbols are there. The first four lines are about Bethlehem before the birth of Christ, and the line about the bird.
