It was a rainy night when he came into sight
Standing by the road, no umbrella, no coat
So I pulled up along side and I offered him a ride
He accepted with a smile, so we drove for a while

I didn't ask him his name, this lonely boy in the rain
Fate tell me it's right, is this love at first sight
Please don't make it wrong, just stay for the night

All I want to do is make love to you
Say you will, you want me too
All I want to do is make love to you
I've got lovin' arms to hold on to

So we found this hotel, it was a place I knew well
We made magic that night, Oh, he did everything right
He brought the woman out of me, so many times, easily
And in the morning when he woke, all I left him was a note

I told him I am the flower, you are the seed
We walked in the garden, we planted a tree
Don't try to find me, please don't you dare
Just live in my memory, you'll always be there

All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew
All want to do is make love to you
I've got lovin' arms to hold on to

Oh, oooh, oh, we made love
Love like strangers
All night long
We made love

Then it happened one day, we came round the same way
You can imagine his surprise when he saw his own eyes
I said please, please understand
I'm in love with another man
And what he couldn't give me, oh, ooh
Was the one little thing that you can

All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew
All I want to do is make love to you
Come on, say you will, you want me too

All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew
All I want to do is make love to you
Say you will, baby, want me to

All night long, all night long, all night long, all night long
All I want to do, all I want to do, all I want to do, all I want to do
All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew, yeah

The lyrics tell you the meaning exactly. In the second verse she talks about the night they spent together, and uses the phrase "I am the flower, you are the seed, we walked in the garden and planted a tree" Refer back many years ago to sex ed... that is called sexual intercourse and fertilization.

Then in the last verse she plainly tells him, I'm in love with another man, what he couldn't give me (that would be a baby, so apparently he could not reproduce) was the ONE little thing that YOU can.

So, in short : She wanted a baby, hot guy on the side of the road, great night of sex, child produced. VOILA kiddies, that's your song. Thanks for playing.

Well, this song is telling the story of a woman who is married to a man who cannot have children, or is sterile, but she wants to. so she simply finds someone who is willing to be her "one night stand" sperm donor, who gives her something her husband never could, but she feels bad so she tells her husband it is his. Then one day she sees the guy in a store and he notices the child right away because it has his eyes.

This song is about a woman that wants to have a baby, but cannot because her husband is incapable, so she picks up a random dude from the street. So they go into a hotel (basically a one night stand). The man then awakens to find a note poetically saying, "we shared a night, but it wasn't anything that special, so don't try to find me, but remember me." So a couple years later, they cross paths at a hotel the man works at at. When he looked up from his desk, he saw her baby and relized that it was his ( he saw his own eyes). So then the lady tells him about her other lover (stated above). The music video clearly explains it.

These lyrics are too vague and leave too many questions unanswered.

I agree with the intentional pregnancy interpretation. Otherwise the letter she writes to the homeless man makes no sense and is way too creepy.

But this doesn't explain why she knows the hotel so well. Has she been sleeping with all the homeless men in town in that hotel trying to get pregnant and we're only hearing the story about the guy that knocked her up? Does she work there? Why does she know it so well?

Does she currently want to make love to him or is she just reliving the past when she says that's all she wants to do? The lyrics seem to say she doesn't want anything to do with him.

The fact that this song was written by a man only adds to the confusion, because men can't have children yet.

Actually, the lyrics say that the very next morning right after they have sex, she leaves him a note that says ""I am the flower you are the seed...We walked in the garden...etc.". I'd argue that if she knows the very next day that they "planted a tree" then she knows she's pregnant. The average woman take at least 28 days to realize she is pregnant, if my sex ed. memory serves. The fact that she wakes up thinking (or perhaps hoping) she is pregnant, means she went into it looking for a baby daddy. BOOYAH!!!

nope, not quite, sh'es not married when she picks the guy up, she just wants a one night stand. it's the same scenario that every woman sometimesgoes throuhg, guy wants one night, woman falls in love. simp,le as that, a few years later she finds him, only wiht a twist. all she wanted was tog et laid that night. well he fell in love. after that, she married a guy who she had been dating, and told him the kid was his. but when she saw the hitchhiker again a few years later, she realkized she was in love with him, but it was too late. simple as that

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
