Lyrics for Konstantine as interpreted by MusicEqualsLife

Konstantine Lyrics
I can't imagine all the people that you know
And the places that you go
When the lights are turned down low
And I don't understand all the things you've seen
But I'm slipping in between
You and your big dreams
It's always you
In my big dreams

And you tell me that it's over
Wake up lying in a patch of four leaf clover
And you're restless, and I'm naked
You've got to get out
You can't stand to see me shaking, no
Could you let me go?
I didn't think so

And you don't want to be here in the future
So you say the present's just a pleasant
Interruption to the past
And you don't want to look much closer
Because you're afraid to find out all this hope
You had sent into the sky by now had crashed
And it did
Because of me

And then you bring me home
Afraid to find out that you're alone
And I'm sleeping in your living room
But we don't have much room to live

I had these dreams in them I learned to play guitar
Maybe cross the country
Become a rock star
And there was hope in me that I could take you there
But damnit, you're so young
Well, I don't think I care
And if I hurt you
Then I'm sorry
Please don't think that this was easy

Then you'd bring me home
Because we both know what it's like to be alone
And I'm dreaming in your living room
But we don't have much room to live

And Konstantine is walking down the stairs
Doesn't she look good
Standing in her underwear?
And I was thinking
What I was thinking
We've been drinking and it doesn't get me anywhere

My Konstantine came walking down the stairs
And all that I could do is touch her long blonde hair
And I've been thinking
It hurts me thinking that these nights when we were drinking
No, they never got us anywhere, no

This is because I can spell confusion with a 'k'
And I can like it
It's to dying in another's arms and why I had to try it
It's to Jimmy Eat World and those nights in my car
When the first star you see may not be a star
I'm not your star
Isn't that what you said
What you thought this song meant

And if this is what it takes
Just to lie with my mistakes
And live with what I did to you
All the hell I put you through
I always catch the clock
It's 11:11
And now you want to talk
It's not hard to dream
You'll always be my Konstantine

My Konstantine, they'll never hurt you like I do
No, they'll never hurt you like I do
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

This is to a girl who got into my head
With all the pretty things she did
Hey, you know
You keep me up in bed
This is to a girl who got into my head
With all these fucked up things I did
Hey, maybe, baby
You could keep me up in bed
My Konstantine
You spin around me like a dream
We played out on this movie screen
And I said
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
I miss you

And then you bring me home
And we'll go to sleep, but this time not alone, no, no
And you'll kiss me in your living room
I know
You'll miss me in your living room
Because these nights I think maybe that
I'll miss you in my living room
We don't have much room
I said does anybody need that room?
Because we all need a little more room
To live

My Konstantine

about the "konstantine" thing, I think that it's just 'constantine' spelled with a K bc the girl's name might start with a K, and the konfusion part of the song is just a spinoff of that. Constantine was a Roman Catholic Saint. If I'm right, than that's clever
but i don't care, this song is just plain AMAZING

There is so much pain in this song. So much pain and love and hurt and jealousy and regret. I think that one of the reasons this song is so good is that everyone can relate to one of the feelings he evokes. The best songs are the ones that don't have one specific interpretation.
This song can literally make me cry if I let it.
I have written stories based solely upon this song.

When I first heard this song, I was like, "What kind of stupid song is this? It's 9 minutes of stupid." But then 2 minutes later I was wanting to listen to it again and again. Which I did for about 2-3 hours. We all know this song is about the ex, Konstantine. But I also think that the guy feels desperate for this girl. Like he needs her. But then on the other hand [girls point], she thinks she doesn't need him anymore. But then come to reality, she sees him, she wants him back.

This song was sent to me by a friend of mine, which -ofcourse- i fell in love with later.
It didn't work out, though.. And eventually i ended up getting hurt. A lot.
So whenever I listen to Konstantine, i remember one of the best times of my life and dealing with too much pain afterwards. I love it. And hate it at the same time.Especially when he sings
'did you know i miss you?' and
'but dammit you're so young
well I don't think I care '
-One of the reasons it didn't work out was the fact he was older.. Oh well, life goes on and the songs still is wonderful!

this song is one of my favorite by them, and i think the meaning is farily obvious, about a girl named konstintine who is the point of the song, but i think that she resents that, ( im not your star ) and its just like a pretty song about him missing her :)

and i agree, the only words i can describe this song are: breathtaking, beautiful, inspring, fufilling, and plain out amazing . its just beauitful . it has so much emotion and the lyrics are so beautiful its scary .

something corporate have nailed an entire generation. There is no other band who got it so right... it makes them incredibly amazing as well as just well... sad at the same time. They are the defining moment for those of us that grew out of the mellenium, and they have found the best of the past two decades of music, and written songs that encompass all of it... especially this one...

the song is about his ex girlfriend krystal, hence "spell konfusion with a k" because its usually spelled with a c. this used to be a song of me and an ex and all along i lost the meaning. i thought it was a love song and about being in love but now that its over i realize the lyrics were really about breaking up and how you can still love someone but there comes a time where you have to move on. i think its weird how we interperate things differently depending on where we are in our lives. now that i look back on everything with that relationship i realize that things i used to think then were so stupid and i dont know how i couldve ever believed that it was love. i think that "konstantine" is just a story of what love is. how it is really just alot of pain in the end and it never lasts.

I think its about a guy who realizez that the girl hes with has the whole world infront of her and he thinks its foolish for her to be so caught up on him cus when he says im slippin in between you and your big dreams it just kinda makes sense to me. but then he realizez that this girl is always on his mind and shes the reason he feels so torn up inside and its the most beautiful song ever written

I love this song, but I'm upset that more people haven't really tried to give their own interpretation of this. Sure, I can relate this song to several different relationships or periods throughout my life, but no one has really mentioned how they personally think Andrew McMahon meant when he wrote this.
My thoughts...
"Konfusion with a K"==if this is about a girl, which is yet to be acknowledged, then I would assume that this girl Konstantine has been so confusing with her feelings for him that confusion can be spelt with a k, because now anything confusing can be related to Konstantine.
as for the beginning when it says "i can't imagine all the people that you know and the places that u go when the lights are turned down low...im sleeping in between you and your big dreams." I would guess that means that (once again, if this is about a girl named Konstantine) that she was very ambitious and he views her as surpassing his knowledge and appreciation of everything. he is saying that she has such a great imagination that he can't even begin to understand. it says that she has such big, ambitious dreams, and it makes it seem as though he may not be involved in these "big dreams" of hers, when he says that he's "slipping in between" these big dreams of hers. this is slightly sad because he goes on to say that "it's always you in my big dreams" that all he cared about in his future was her, and that she was all he wanted and he was satisfied with just her. this is sad (to me at least) because his biggest dream is just being w/ her, and she wants more than just love, etc.

as for the "four leaf clover" part, my best guess is that he wakes up there because since the relationship is over at that point, he wants to find a four leaf clover, which in old traditions is considered lucky and most people make a wish on them. so if he were to be in a whole field of 4 leaf clovers he could wish multiple times for the girl back. this just shows how much he could possibly miss her and either wants her back or for her to be happy.

as for the stanza right before the first chorus "and you dont wanna be here in the future.." up till, "and it did, because of me.." i would interpret as being more about her big dreams and them not involving him. i also think it means that she doesn't reeally want to look into this and see that all these big hopes she has are really not ever going to happen for her, and he says its because of him (for whatever reasons that i cannot figure out)
"and then you bring me home afraid to find out that you're alone" lyrics sound as though she realized she now sees that she lost him and (possbily??) her dreams/hopes, so in a last minute attempt to hold onto some dignity, she takes him home so she doesn't have to face being alone.

the second verse about "i had these dreams in them i learned to play guitar" up till "then im sorry plz dont think this was easy" it totally sounds like he made the same mistake with her! he dragged her into his dreams of traveling the country with her and his music. it seems like it didn;t work out because he apologizes for hurting her, and in the next chorus it says that they both know what its like to be alone.

so then i was reading the past posts of other people, and i kind of agree with them about the whole Konstantine thing. That Konstantine could either be a real girl or that it's something "Constant";;this girl was something/ someone that had always been constant in his life and would be forever more.

i have some more interpretations for the rest of the song but i think i've written a lot a lot for now. please someone comment on how you think i did! thanks! i love something corporate. =]

I really cant even describe what this song means to me..I can relate in so many different ways. Friendships and more.

This is pretty much about you first love. Andrew's relationship with his ex-girlfriend Krystal and all the conflict that occured.

This is one of my all time favorites, it makes me want to cry and smile at the same time.

It's everything to me. I know I would have died if I never heard this song.
It gives me hope when I feel like all is lost.
Those 9min and 35sec are the world to me...

summer '06, My life related pretty well to this song.. I thought it was kind of odd how similar they were

I think what makes this song so cool is the music. At the chorus when the piano comes in, I like that. And, also I guss it's neat the length! I mean 9 minutes! That's not that common in new music today, so It's different!

this song is the anthem to all highschool, college and lifetime sweethearts. a relationship forever benign to all extraneous factors life has to throw at it. paths may lead opposite ways once or twice...maybe more but remain relatively parallel till the union again. This song is more than meaningful to me and others, it IS the me and the others. Some heartless acts occur, you learn and ultimately know who your heart lies with...ALL IN GOOD TIME MY FRIENDS...ALL IN GOOD TIME.
