    My Interpretation:I always thought the song ment anyone who was dealing with a cheating relationship...the best part of this song she doesn't claim the gender of the cheater/lover so everyone can relate to this song .I think in the beginning she telling us that she just can't grasp that what she already knew what was coming in denial with unfaithful. So after the lover tells her the reality she knows that what they picked isn't going to be love a love like theirs but the lover doesn't care because their afraid of the love. So the lover ends up having to deal with their reality "she"doesnt want the lover to cheat on her so they end up arguing and screaming at each other because they're not suppose to be together but then "she" realizes thats never going to happen so she lies and says nothings wrong and maybe leave him and I think he becomes violent towards her eyes, skin ect ..So the Singer knows all this and all she can do is sit back and wait till the lover realize What the lovers doing (demons) and she'll still help the lover because she's maddly in love with the lover ands been thru the cheating to many times to count but doesnt care and the lover uses sex to ignore all the pain the lover caused.*I guess mine has a more darker meaning *

    General Comment:About the doubt this song is about a woman, how about the fact she dates women? that proof enough?
    Also I always thought this song was about a woman who has issues, either a mental illness or severe emotional problems. A lot of the lyrics suggest that she's running from something. Also "go on and hold her 'til the screaming is gone/ go on believe her when she tells you nothing's wrong/". to me the lyrics sound as though Ethridge sacrifices herself for this woman in a sense,(walk across a fire/drown in my desire) that she is the only one that would is the main theme. It sounds like a really unhealthy relationship, but very romantic none-the-less. Also, really? Gay bashing on this thread? It's pretty shameful to hate on love. Live and let live, man. As a wise man once said "Leviticus also said 'No Hair Cuts' but I guess we are skipping that one".

    General Comment:Wow, I love this song. It's basically saying that no one can ever replace her because her intense devotion to this person. Whoever it is tries to compensate for losing her by getting involved with other women, but they won't make it feel any better. How sad :(

    General Comment:the thing about ME is she can write about her relationship and anyone can relate to it. Yeah she's a lesbian, and I'm not, but I know how that feels, and I know how it feels with most of her songs. It's why I like her so much, most artists don't have that power.

    General Comment:Who cares if shes gay or if anyone else is!, and she sure isn't ugly!!!. M.E is an amazing artist and i love her music. I am a straight guy but do not have a problem with gays/les/trans etc. (i have two cousins that are gay and one aunt thats lesbian) so maybe you think im biased but i dont feel that they have an impact on my opinion. people these days are so fixed on what is right and wrong with sexuality. I say each to their own!. its there business and not yours so leave it at that! I give major props to mel for "coming out" and being proud of it!. Every person on this earth deserves to be loved for who they are and what their about.

    General Comment:Cool. Thanks for that insight into that lyric, beyondchance. That makes sense to me. And the cheater is probably just trying to convince themselves that nothings wrong. But the reality is that they've carried their same problems from the one relationship to another. And maybe they've even run into some new ones.

    I've always thought this line was about the grass being greener on the other side of the fence, and realizing that what they had was best, and the "cheater" repeating the cycle with the new woman...
