Lyrics for FM as interpreted by AbFab

FM Lyrics
Hurry the bottle, mama,
It's grapefruit wine.
Kick off your high heeled sneakers,
It's party time.

The girls don't seem to care what's on
As long as they play till dawn.
Nothing but blues and Elvis
And somebody else's favorite song.

Give us some funked up music,
She treats you nice.
Feed us some hungry reggae,
She loves you twice.

The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right.
No static at all,
No static at all,
No static at all.
FM, no static at all.

Give us some funked up music,
She treats you nice.
Feed us some hungry reggae,
She loves you twice.

The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right.
No static at all,
No static at all,
No static at all.
FM, no static at all.

What a cool song. This song must have come out about the same time as FM radio did in the 1970s. It seems to be saying that FM radio is good, because it makes it easier for guys to get in a girl's pants! :-)

FM radio came out in the 70's? Try the 30's. It's from a film of the same title. One of their funnier songs, I think.

It say how FM radio has better sound quality then Am radio whicvh was the popular way of transmitting music until the late 60's early 70's when FM took off.

Who cares when FM radio came about... that first verse is amazing:
Hurry the bottle, mama,
It's grapefruit wine.
Kick off your high heeled sneakers,
It's party time.

They wrote the theme tune to FM, which was a total flop.

Everyone's right - FM took off in the '70s with crystal clear reception. Music seem to split into "FM friendly" bands & AM, more basic rock 'n' roll.
The film FM was crap, but the music contained was fab - some of the tracks came across as brilliant videos - good photography used.
FM was about an FM station, one DJ in particular. He ended up having a breakdown on air, very similar to Tony Blackburn on Radio 1 in the UK

There is a hilarious video about the song "FM" and the mythical Steely Dan/Eagles feud here:

Must have been made back in the early 80s.

The lyrics are pretty clear. They always seemed to me to capture the moment on a Friday evening when things get interesting for a couple.

What stuck out the most about this song to me was its use of a string section. I haven't heard any other Steely Dan song that does. I saw the movie "FM", and it was a sleeper, but it obviously inspired the series "WKRP in Cincinnati", which was cool.

The DVD new is at 150 bucks on Amazon, I Loved the movie, as a radio dude for 30 years, I get it. Many people believe the tune was a commercial for a movie that was obviously heavily supported by the labels. FM was in 1976, and the switch to FM as an alt for AM was about STEREO! (am is mono and Bandwidth! from 11k to 15 KHZ so it was the labels dream. The movie featured Live performances by Linda Ronstadt and Jimmy Buffet, and the soundtrack is ALL FM Hits, joe Walsh Boston, Tom Petty release interview of Breakdown, Player Baby Come Back- The album is a staple, and this song is so well put together. There were strings and all the best a budget of MCA and the Films budget.. It did a great job of putting FM into the mainstream and Steely Dan was hired to build a bad ass title track, and they did. The song portrays FM as the "Hip sex and all night" image. To push the point, the mid day jock in the movie committed suicide when he got booted off the FM station (Q-SKY) onto thier AM station! By the time the 80s came around FM was dominant, and to this day all the soundtrack is being played to this day somehwere right now.. I Have the double album and the movie and Martin Mull was GREAT in the flick...On the Lyric I thought it was "feed HER some hungry reggea" also, not Hurry but "WORRY the bottle mama"

Has anyone seen the live DVD "Plush Jazz-Rock TV Party"? They play a great version of FM and many others besides. Got it for Christmas and its got the most crystal clear sound.

Okay let's cut the bullshit - the first chorus Faigan says "Give her some fucked up music," right??? I mean, I try to hear "funked up music" (and I can, the second time), but man it just doesn't work. He's f-bombing right?
