My, my what a mess we've made of our pretty little heads these days.
It appears a heavy wind's blown through here recently.
Best wishes have been made for you, you never had no say it's true.
You have to be the cutest gravedigger I've ever seen.
And all your lonely nights in the city of lights are much like
all these crowded bars I so often find my stupid self stumbling through.
My, my what a mess was made of my head
when I heard what you'd been through that day
It appears a violent storm's passed through you recently.
Letters meant to be sent have been torn.
The phone lies off the hook, on the floor.
All these "I'm sorry"s and "I miss you"s are useless,
I fucked this one up long ago.
And all your lonely nights in the city of lights are much like
all these crowded bars I so often find my stupid self stumbling through.
Fuck you Aurora,
You took my only friend.
And although it's all my fault,
the blaming myself had to come to an end
so I say:
Fuck you Aurora,
You took my only friend.
You wont catch me behind the wheel of a Chrysler ever again.
My, my what a mess we've made of our precious little lives these days.
It appears a big fucking tornado has twisted us up recently.
Best wishes have been made for you, you never had no say it's true.
You have to be the cutest gravedigger I've ever seen.
And all your lonely nights in the city of lights are much like
all these crowded bars I so often find my stupid self stumbling through.
Fuck you Aurora,
You took my only friend.
And although it's all my fault,
the blaming myself had to come to an end
so I say:
Fuck you Aurora,
You took my only friend.
You won't catch me behind the wheel of a Chrysler ever again.

My sophomore year, I dated a girl named Aurora. Before this, I accumulated tons of great friends, who knew her before I did, and none of my friends got along with her or liked her. There were many conflicts between them, and it was hard for me to deal with it. She kind of lived vicariously through me, and her dislike for my previous friends was too much for me, and I ended up losing all of them. We dated for 14 months, which was my longest relationship at the time. Ultimately in the end, I only ever saw Aurora. I was with her all day, everyday. I would go to her house after school, see her on lunch (we would both go to a secluded hallway in my high school (probably because we were afraid of seeing all of her enemies)); she was then only person I ever saw. We both lived really close to the school, and I was ALWAYS with her.
My best friend tried to date her before I did, and was not as patient as I was for her. My friends would always tell me I was making a mistake, and a girl (my current love) that I had talked to and known well for a long time that lived in my neighborhood told me it was a stupid choice, and we stopped talking. It was devastating to me. I thought about her all the time, and was (still am) so sorry to her for losing touch. I didnt know myself at the time, and didnt realize that the opportunity cost of a girlfriend over a lot of great friends was not worth it.
This was probably my friends’ choice song to describe how they felt about the whole thing.
Finally, I caught on and realized I had made a big mistake, and broke up with Aurora. Luckily, my old friends took me back, but there will always be a gap and something weird, something missing, from our pasts. My friends are great, and am so grateful for them. I will never take them for granted again. I will always be so sorry for what I did. I was stupid. And now, when I hear this song, I think about how I lost all of my friends because of Aurora. I mean, yeah, there’s other removable themes in this song, but this one is the most relevant to me. I play guitar, and love playing this song. Sometimes when I sing it and get to the chorus, I sing, “Fuck you Aurora, you took all of my friends”.
This is a great song, and it really holds a huge part in my heart and soul.
If you read the whole thing, thanks for reading it.

What is the meaning behind “Fuck You Aurora?”
Matt: It’s about a friend of mine that moved to Aurora, Illinois. After that we didn’t get to see much of each other. Somebody’s gotta take the blame. Sorry Aurora.
Aurora is the second largest city in IL
and is directly west of the city.
It's considered part of the Chicago land area.
A little late to this topic, but just thought I'd throw that out there.
Kinda helps growing up in their home town. haha
