"I can feel you waiting for me when the sun retreats to the hills and I,
Below the blanket of a burning sky,
Wrap myself within.
Embraced by dead leaves as the rain leaves trails of black down my face,
and I,
Creep through the twilight to that hidden place, beyond the lonely.
I'll meet you..

(chorus)
Tonight in the whispers when no one's around.
Nothing can stop us now.
Tonight in the whispers where we won't be found.
Nothing can stop us now.
(oh)

I can feel you dreaming of me and the time when our steps are retraced,
and I,
Creep through the twilight to that hidden place, beyond the lonely,
I'll meet you.

(chorus)
Tonight in the whispers when no one's around.
Nothing can stop us now.
Tonight in the whispers where we won't be found.
Nothing can stop us..
(ohhh)

(Breakdown)
I can feel you dreaming of me,
I can feel you dreaming.
I can feel you dreaming of me,
Beneath a dream, Beneath a dream
I can feel you dreaming of me,
I can feel you dreaming.
I can feel you dreaming of me,
Lost in a dream, Lost in a dream.
(ohhhhh)
(chorus)
Tonight in the whispers when no one's around.
Nothing can stop us now.
Tonight in the whispers where we won't be found.
Nothing can stop us!"

(END)

My Interpretation:I think the song is about him being alone in the real world, but when he falls asleep he meets his love (Creep through the twilight to that hidden place, beyond the lonely.. Beneath a dream, lost in a dream.. One world away, you were just one world away..)

General Comment:I've loved AFI ever since thay first came out. I loved them as Anthems For Insubordinates and I love them now as A Fire Inside
But this songs true meaning is questionable at best. Not to say it is'nt great, because this song is freakin' sweet =^..^=

General Comment:I completely disagree with lifelesslove, the thing about vampires is complete bullshit. I mean "..vampires have black around their eyes." Come on. And all this stuff about love... I don't think any of AFI's songs are about love. Davey is a very great writer, and I think he likes to mislead people from his actual meanings. But my opinion... I think this song is completely imaginative. I think Davey has in his own mind created a new holiday/season. Easter, a major christian holiday takes place in the spring. Maybe he's trying to say the "opposite" of Easter is Wester, and it takes place in the fall. (Embraced by dead leaves..) Maybe this is a satanic holiday that he had dreamed about. Much like Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast, when a guy witnesses a satanic ritual. (Beneath a dream, lost in a dream) And at the end it says smile, which is never heard in the song. I think that when Davey wrote this he meant to end it by him waking up and saying something like wow wtf, or maybe laughing to himself. ...Just a thought, but is sure beats that Anne Rice novel that lifelesslove was trying to write.

General Comment:Dude, you're really starting to piss me off. Not everything is about drugs just because you would like them to be. Here you are like on every page telling us something that doesn't even make any sense. Do yoy really expect me to believe your bullshit?
I agree with the people who said this is about Davey's love to autumn. Kinda similar to Winters Tale, I think. I actually made a painting inspired by this song.

General Comment:I think that the title, "Wester" is actually intended as a play on "Easter."

General Comment:In folkloric witchcraft, it was common for a witch to make a pact with spirits, and commune with them at the Sabbat. A.O. Spare and Andrew Chumbley wrote extensively about attending these witches' Sabbats in astral form.

As the sun retreats toward the west, darkness envelops the land, and the time of the witch creeps over the horizon.

It was also mentioned that the west wind could come into play. The four directions are important in the craft, and being that we are talking about 'west', we must speak in terms of the element of water - in this case, I would use Leviathan, as he is the coiled serpent of the abyssic waters. He represents emotion, psychicism, empathy, healing. Leviathan is known (at least to me) to cause a light cool breeze during rituals to him, which could play off the idea of the western wind.

And with all the talk of vampyrs, this could work as well, since TRUE vampyrism is the art of feeding off the energy of gods and humans.

General Comment:this is about two vampires being in love with one another

creep through the twighlight to that hidden place- twighlight-vampires only come out at night
hidden place- dracula's fortress hidden in the mountains of transilvania

as the sun retreats- again, night time, when vampires come out

I can feel you dreaming of me and the time when our steps are retraced and I creep through the twilight to that hidden place- they retrace their steps back to the fortress as the night ends.

I can feel you waiting for me as the sun retreats to the hills and I, beneath the blanket of a burning sky, wrap myself within- vampires can burn to death. burn in eachothers arms?

as trails of black run down my face- rainy night, vampires have black around their eyes

I'll meet you tonight in the whispers when no one's around. Nothing can stop us now. Tonight in the whispers where we won't be found- no one no's where they are at, everyone is asleep, nothing can stop them. in the hills; they are hidden

yes i know that wasnt in order at all, but there it is.
kinda had a hard time putting it into words, but you can picture it if you know anything about vampires
