Lyrics for Drowning Lessons as interpreted by a scar in the sky

Drowning Lessons Lyrics
Without a sound I took her down
and dressed in red and blue I squeezed
Imaginary wedding gown
That you can't wear in front of me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Lets say goodbye, the hundreth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again

I dragged her down I put her out
And back there I left her where no one could see
And lifeless cold into this well
I stared as this moment was held for me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Lets say goodbye, the hundreth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again

I never thought it'd be this way
Just me and you, we're here alone
And if you stay, all I'm asking for is
A thousand bodies piled up
I never thought would be enough
To show you just what I've been thinking

And I'll keep on making more
Just to prove that I adore
Every inch of sanity
All I'm asking for is, all I'm asking for is

These hands stained red

From the times that I've killed you and then
We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne

Without, without a sound
And I wish you away

i think this ong might be about getting wedding cold feet, or just being scared about many things in general. when you swallow something (like the 'engagement ring') you want to forget about it and lock it away forever, i'm thinking maybe the viewpoint has someone in a relationship that really wants to go further (imaginary wedding dress) but he can't stand the thought of it and is insanely OCd and scared of it. everyone distances themselves from what they can't stand/haunts them, hence the 'dont wear it in front of me' thing. i think the thousand-bodies piled up part could possibly be all the fears he has of the wedding, and everything that could go wrong.

I don't know what this song exactly means it just sounds great. I think there could be a lot of different meanings to this song.

For me, this song has *always* reminded me of my ex-boyfriend and all...from the very beginning of it to the end. Just the lyrics, the sound of it...*gah*...it's weird. I love this song to tiny little bits...especially the lines "I never thought it'd be this way/Just you and me, we're here alone", etc...*gah*...*so* great.

i think the song has somthing to do with the 1000 evil souls story, but i feel songs like this could mean diffferent things to different people, but for me it would have to be gerards story of a man, a woman, and the corpses of a 1000 evil souls, i think the man and his lover had dreams of gettin married but she might of got killed during one of there crime scene fights, and he blames himself wich is why 'his hands are stained red' now he has to kill 1000 evil people for the devil because the devil has made a deal with him that if he does so, the devil will re-unite him with his love, and the man still feels that it wouldnt be enough just to prove how much he loved her,

i was just wondering, are the songs on Bullets concept, cause there are a lot of sad romance and endings and stuff. i do love this cd, though, including the sad romantic deaths and depressingness

I love this song and think mcr are the greatest band to ever grace the world with music. (That may sound kind of stalkery but whatever...) I think you can't analyse the song on its own, you have to talk about the whole album, so... I think the Bullets album is about a guy who breaks up with his girlfriend, then realises what a huge mistake he made and tries to get her back, but she doesn't want him anymore. So he shoots her. And then realises that he just killed the love of his life. Then there are songs that don't fit into this overview like Vampires will never hurt you but the rest of the songs do. My over analysed view of an awesome album. Take it or leave it.
(I love Mikey Way.....)

I just can't get enough of this song. I have a feeling it's a pre up to the 3 cheers story. Like how the chick is dead and is in a well and she is in a wedding gown and 1000 bodies piled up he's making more and stuff like that. The washing down the ring is like sum sorta symbol i'm sure only Gerrard can tell us but for some reason people keep us guessing

My explanation was similar to atticusf04 and youll be a memory.....and/or i agree witht hem a little...

I didnt think the guy was actually witht he girl...

i thought that the guy wanted the girl really bad but she married someone else....cos of that line "imaginary wedding dress taht you cant wear in front of me"
but then of course it has imaginary at the front and i thought that thats just this english thing....theres a term for it but ive forgotten....when you add a word thats really usefless and its just for effect....
and then i agree with youll be a memory...and yeah....

crappy explanation but yeah...

'xxldrowningxxl' I am now questioning your naivity...i think its safe to say we are all wetting ourselves with joy over 'Life On The Murder Scene' but none of us are daft enough to question that fact on a site where only fans would come to view there lyrics.

Even though I do agree with most of the explanation here- that he loves this girl so much that he simply can't live without her, even though she doesn't love him back, and he can only try to wish her away, as the end says- it DOES seem to be a large nod to the second album, which is- or, uh, is mostly- a concept album. Maybe this was even the inspiration, and "Sweet Revenge" was the expansion on the idea.

I agree with Nightlark, i think this song along with demolition lovers sets up the whole corpses of 1000 evil men sinario, just makes sense really i guess i think both songs are definetly about the same coupel as in the songs on sweet revenge...or most of teh songs anyway...

Great song love it, not their best in my opinion but one of their best definetly

you can also look at it from another perspective.

like a girl likes a guy who's already engaged, so the girl who likes him kills his fiancee so she could be with him. "I never thought it'd be this way, just me and you here alone." and she says that she'd do anything for him. "And if you stay, all I'm asking for is/ A thousand bodies piled up/I never thought would be enough/ To show you just what I've been thinking."

so it can be pretty much the same story from the side of someone watching the marriage.

ok to the comment above: wtf??

umm, I think this song can't really be interpreted on its own, cos its just one part of like a whole story ...

has anyone thought about what the meaning of the album title might have to do with the whole thing?

its confusing lol.

This song is a little complex you know? I feel a lot about it. It’s about falling in love with the wrong person and not letting them go when you know you should. Dreaming of a wedding and having kids with them, when in the end you have one last drink together and it just happens to be cyanide.
