Lyrics for Drowning Lessons as interpreted by a scar in the sky

Drowning Lessons Lyrics
Without a sound I took her down
and dressed in red and blue I squeezed
Imaginary wedding gown
That you can't wear in front of me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Lets say goodbye, the hundreth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again

I dragged her down I put her out
And back there I left her where no one could see
And lifeless cold into this well
I stared as this moment was held for me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Lets say goodbye, the hundreth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again

I never thought it'd be this way
Just me and you, we're here alone
And if you stay, all I'm asking for is
A thousand bodies piled up
I never thought would be enough
To show you just what I've been thinking

And I'll keep on making more
Just to prove that I adore
Every inch of sanity
All I'm asking for is, all I'm asking for is

These hands stained red

From the times that I've killed you and then
We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne

Without, without a sound
And I wish you away

okay...
yeh so the song i always thought is pretty much as much to do with three cheers as demolition lovers is.
He has to kill 1000 evil people so he can be with his new wife again.

This is one f THE best MCR songs, in my book...

As for the wedding references, I always took it to mean that the girl was supposed to be getting married to SOMEONE ELSE, but throws everything away to be with another, even though it's a tough relationship...

And I do agree with the references to Three Cheers about the story of the thousand corpses. It's awesome how most of their songs follow a story, yet each song is individual and can have many meanings...

This is an amazing song one of their bests the lyrics are deep and memorable and it is still disturbing and gory my favourite part is "we can wash off this engagment ring with poison and and kerosene We'll laugh as we die And we'll celebrate the end of things With cheap champagne" what is with geralds obsession of killing the person you love cause that is what alot of mcrs songs make me think neway awsome song

holy shit lot-o-coments anyway I've been fallowing Mcr since they were true underground, i am glad to see them where they r today, but lets cut to the chase this song is about a guy (gerard) and a girl. all he wants is to spend forever with her but she wants more with another guy. this realy pisses him off he's givin her everything (hense the 1000 bodies part) and she wont stay with him so....he kills her

this song is true gold. its actually about romeo and juliet.. well the whole cd is but this song especially. think about it..

" Lets say goodbye, the hundreth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again " -- is from the play where they say ' for the hundreth time, goodnight ' and the song is about juliets wedding to another man, and how he doesnt know she isnt really dead. just a thoughttttt :)

p.s. xmindgamesx is right, how can you be obbsessed if you cant even get his name right? :S

VERSE 1; Without a sound I took her down
and dressed in red and blue I squeezed
Imaginary wedding gown
That you can't wear in front of me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Lets say goodbye, the hundredth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again
Tomorrow we'll do it again

This verse is about a girl that he loved very much, but I don't think he loved him back. The imaginary wedding gown that she can't wear in front of him, I think is her not wanted to admit the feelings that she has somewhere in her cold black heart (I'm sorry but who wouldn't love Gerard!) He kills her, metamorphically, metamorphically, he's giving up on trying to pursue a relationship with her. Rice grains are thrown at weddings (love) and roses at funerals (death), the love is dead, he says goodbye but knows that tomorrow he'll be back in love with her.

VERSE 2;

I dragged her down I put her out
And back there I left her where no one could see
And lifeless cold into this well
I stared as this moment was held for me
(A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Let's say goodbye, the hundredth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again)

So she's dead, & he needs someplace to hide the body (or his feelings, metamorphically) he puts her in the well (or the past) he stares so he can remember that it's all over (kinda like when you stare at someone you really really like haha)

VERSE 3;
I never thought it'd be this way
Just me and you, we're here alone
And if you stay, all I'm asking for is
A thousand bodies piled up
I never thought would be enough
To show you just what I've been thinking

This is where an actual mythological story comes in place, there is a myth that a long time ago, this guy was madly in love with this girl, well satan decided to take this girl, so he did. the guy then went through the gates of hell to get her back..when he got there satan told him she was not there but he knew where she was..then he told the guy if he brought him the souls of 1,000 evil men he would let him have the girl so they could be together forever. so you get the picture, he probably regrets killing her (trying to forget her), and realizes that he'd do anything to have her.

THE REST OF THE SONG;

And I'll keep on making more
Just to prove that I adore
Every inch of sanity
All I'm asking for is, all I'm asking for is

These hands stained red

From the times that I've killed you and then
We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne

Without, without a sound [x2]
And I wish you away
Without a sound
And I wish you away

Without a sound, without a sound
And I wish you away
[x3]"

He's been trying so hard to be with her..he's killed her one day (metamorphically) and then brought her back the next, he doesn't want to love her because he can't have her, but he loves her..and then when time passes..and she still doesn't love him (that b!tch) he just wants to die with her...

'From the times that I've killed you and then

obviously, swollowing poison and kerosene will kill you, going back to the fact, he'd rather die than be without her.

i dont know...

ok i havent really heard alot of their songs but i love all the ones i've heard. i'm just writing to say that i agree with whoever said that "to the end" is the sequel. I definitely think they're connected because in this song there is the lyrics "we can wash down this engagement ring with poison and kerosene" and in "to the end" they say "I'll forget all the diamonds you ate". so ya maybe their connected, but i cant figure out how because i dont really know the songs all that well! will someone who does let me know what they think?

this song has a various amount of meanings to me. i feel it was written to let someone know something. like gerard wrote it to let someonee know that he will love them to the end, that nothing canseperate them from their love. but then it could also mean that you hate someone so much that you are glad to get them alone and do wjatever you want to do to them, idont know.. thats just waht i think... but all i know is that this is my favorite song of all time!

He is speaking of a relationship that didn't work out, or so I interpret.

"Without a sound, took her down..."
Silently, she's dying due to their separating relationship.
"And dressed in red and blue I squeezed..."
Either she's dressed in blue and has blood on her or she's dress in red and suffocating.

Its not really perfect yet, but maybe its something to do with the girl he ("dude A") loves isn't in love with him, has a boyfriend shes deeply in love with but doesnt want to hurt "dude A" (imaginary wedding gown that you can't wear in front of me)He finds out and gets real angry, so he makes a suicide pact with her... even if she may not want to go along with it.Or, she does love him back but can't be with him due to her boyfriend. He tried to remember her and move on but it doesnt work. If he cant have her in this life, he will try to get her in the next?
anyway, this version isnt quite perfect cause it has no reference to 3 cheers. Whatever. I'll work something out!

i have a pretty good idea of what this song means... i think it means that he was engaged to a woman... but maybe she decided she didnt want to marry him anymore.. so now he wants her to die... alot of lines in that song give me that feeling... for example..

"I never thought it'd be this way
Just me and you, we're here alone
And if you stay, all I'm asking for is
A thousand bodies piled up
I never thought would be enough
To show you just what I've been thinking "

ok... ... "and if youd stay"... that means that she wanted to leave him... "a thousand bodies piled up i never thought would be enough to show you just what ive been thinking."..... hes giving her the impression that he wants to kill her... also........... "From the times that I've killed you and then
We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne"..... this is what gives me that idea that they were engaged...

and for the end part of the song.. (which is the most awsum part)... "Without, without a sound
And I wish you away " ... he wants her to die...

by the way.. its I'll wish you away, not I wish you away..

well yeah thats my interpretation... but this is definitely MCR's best song. the VMA's are about to come on.. and if they dont win an award im gona kill something!!!!!!

for all the MCR 'fans' who cant get past Gerards pretty little face- this song is about staying in a bad relationship when you know you shouldn't. like taking drowning lessons; who needs to learn how to drown? its pointless. the song means the relationship is pointless and he knows it but he still plays along with the girls fantasy-the wedding. they wash down the engagement ring with poison and kerosene; i.e to stay together would kill them so there laughing at their own deaths by carrying on with the relationship. its all part of a story- check out the other songs and i'll explain- it all ties in with the thousand bodies piled up.

I love this bit-

I dragged her down I put her out
And back there I left her where no one could see
And lifeless cold into this well
I stared as this moment was held for me

the imagery there is just surreal.
I also agree with MrsPop about the name of the song. Taking drowning lessons is rediculous, just like the relationship. I love this song.

It is know that there are soem people fall in love and go crazy and i think that's what happens to the character in this story. He loves the girl so much he murders her and dresses her up in a wedding dress. Then he kills himself. "We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne "the best fucking lyrics on earth.

Ok. I think it means this. Actually, I am pretty sure it does.

Okay he killed her. He put her in a well. Then he realized how much he missed her and he has to kill 1000 people to get her back. Hence, the reference to 1000 bodies all piled up in the song. Oh, and you all copied the wrong word from someone. The word isnt metamorphically. Lol. Its metaphorically. Metamorphically has to do with metamorphosis, which is changing from one thing to another. so yea you all meant metaphorically.
