The first star I see may not be a star
We can't do a thing but wait so let's wait
For one more
And the time's such clumsy time
Deciding if it's time
I'm careful but not sure how it goes
You can lose yourself in your courage
When the time we have now ends,
When the big hand goes round again,
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?
And the mindless comfort those
When I'm alone with my big plans
And this is what she said gets her through it
If I don't let myself be happy now then when?
If not now?
When the time we have now ends,
And when the big hand goes round again,
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?
I close my eyes and believe
That wherever you are, Angel
For when the time we have now ends
And when the big hand goes round again
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?
We can't do a thing but wait so let's wait
For one more
And the time's such clumsy time
Deciding if it's time
I'm careful but not sure how it goes
You can lose yourself in your courage
When the time we have now ends,
When the big hand goes round again,
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?
And the mindless comfort those
When I'm alone with my big plans
And this is what she said gets her through it
If I don't let myself be happy now then when?
If not now?
When the time we have now ends,
And when the big hand goes round again,
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?
I close my eyes and believe
That wherever you are, Angel
For when the time we have now ends
And when the big hand goes round again
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?

like hes contemplating it. like hes looking for a reason to stay, or a reason to go. and when he finally has the "courage" to do it hes second guessing.
but maybe he lost a loved one , and thats why hes contemplating.
The chorus, to me, is Jim talking to himself (kinda like in Lucky Denver Mint)
"When the time we have now ends, big hand etc.." means hours pass by, and you still haven't told her how you feel or anything. You've seemingly missed your perfect chance.
"Can you still feel the butterflies? Can you still hear the last goodnight?"
And of course, in classic J.E.W style, Jim beats himself down. Reminding himself how pathetic he is.
"and the mindless comfort grows, when I'm alone with my big plans"
"and this is what she says gets her through it: If I don't let myself be happy now then when, if not now when?"
1st line is kind of obvious.
2nd line, they're starting to talk about relationships, and she is still oblivious to everything so she blurts out random phrases and anything, and upon hearing this line come out of her mouth, he deduces that she's not into him after all and decides that telling her he has feelings for her can only go wrong.
^ I know it sounds weird when I explain it... but its guy logic. If you're a guy.. you'd know.
Together with Crush... kinda melts your heart doesn't it.
Once you've experienced these things, i don't know all of a sudden a light clicks in your head and it makes sense.
"Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?"
Can you remember how it felt before? Could you still feel that way?
That's what I get from it...
no, just watch the fireworks is the best song on the album. so that has to be one of the greatest songs ever. wait...
no, on a sunday is the best song on the album...
wait...
it could be about a break up, or simply being in love.
My favorite lyric is def..
"If i don't let myself be happy now then when?
If not now then when..."

We can't do a thing but wait
So let's wait for one more"
First love, or at least first relationship deep enough to make him it's love. It's over though, so they will have to wait for the next star, not willing to give up on love :)
The rest angst etc about how to handle their unavoidable break up. Even if their feelings were equally powerful, the girl was the more practical one. She knew there was no practical alternative (if not happy now, materially/career wise etc at least, then when)
"When the time we had now ends
And when the big hand goes round again
Can you still feel the butterflies?
Can you still hear the last goodnight?"
Moving on with their lives, when they fall "in love"... again, will they still be able to hear the butterflies ~ from this relationship which meant so much to them?
That's basically the gist of it to me. More or less a literal interpretation. A tribute to first love. Beautiful, a little rage inducing as well. When did I start listening to emo?
its just about enjoying the simplest things. like being with a girl or just hanging with friends.
i know for me when i think of this song i think of a girl i really like and how she and i used to be so close and i was so scared to tell her. one night i finally worked up the courage but she didnt feel the same way she just wanted to be friends and i was okay with that because i just enjoyed being with her. it was "heaven" for me.
The song puts me in this setting -- I am outside, looking up at the stars.... maybe one of them isn't really a star at all, but my wife looking down upon me? Time is so clumsy now, I'm careful but not sure how I make it thru each day. I often lose myself in whatever false courage I muster up for myself, on those days I feel like I am "getting over it"... only to have the big hand of Time come around again and remind me that I am still alone and weak.
I can still feel the butterflies of the day we first met.... I can still hear our last goodbye... and I still remember everything in between.
I close my eyes and believe, that wherever my Angel is... she can still feel the butterflies too, and hear that last "goodnight".
The time we had now ends.
