Lyrics for Biomusicology as interpreted by hollyhoxnj

Biomusicology Lyrics
Have you never
Come across
The vastness of pavement
The bareness of waves and
The grayness of the sea

Never lost
Or never been misguided
Wade in every sea so shining

I've come from out
Of a handsome in Camden
To a bar in the basement
While all the while it rained

I'll come around
To the friendliest of faces
Handsomest in ugly places

Come from out
Of the tunnels we dig in
And say the tunneling's not livin'
And working doesn't work

Come and find
The love in his labor
Labor's life our lives forever

Come and see
The keeping's not given
You get what you've given
You get what you deserve

In the midst
Of all of the action
Maybe only their thought's satisfaction

Chasing seafoam dreams around another dirty old town
Parallel-run streams crawl through gray ocean from the green ground
Oed und leer das meer beneath the leafy glassy surface
All the songs you hear down there they have a purpose

All in all
We cannot stop singing
We cannot start singing
We'll swivel to an ends

They may kill
And we may be pardoned
We will never be broken-hearted

I really love this song.. but the lyrics are posted wrong... in particular, it's "Oed und leer das meer".. not "Burden leer does smear".
Thank you

This song can change your life. The opening chords are like powerful rays of sunshine, and that's just what the song is about--it's coming out into the warmth of music and simply being greeted by it--and enjoying every fucking note of it! Its learning the meaning of life through music, its learning ABOUT life through music. You can hear your life--the late night hangouts with friends, the morning walks to classes or rides to work, the lunch breaks, the rides home, the happy times and just an utter appreciation for life and music...all in this song.

The lyrics posted are complete junk. These are the correct lyrics:

Had we never come across
the vastness of pavement,
the barrenness of waves and
the grayness of the sea;
Never lost or ne'er been misguided,
we'd have ne'er reached seas so shining -
Or come from out
of a handsom in Camden
to a bar in the basement
while all the while it rained;
Or come around
to the friendliest of faces,
handsomest in ugly places -
Or come from out
of the tunnels we dig in,
to see that tunneling's not living,
and working doesn't work;
Or come to find
that loving is labor,
Labor's life and life's forever -
Or come to see
that keeping's not giving,
You get what you've given,
you get what you deserve;
In the midst of all of the action
maybe only there found satisfaction.

Chasing seafoam dreams around another dirty old town. Parallel run streams toward the gray ocean from the green ground.
"Oed und leer, das meer", but look beneath the glassy surface. All the songs you hear: down there they have a purpose.

All in all,
we cannot stop singing.
We cannot start sinking.
We swim until it ends.
They may kill
and we may be parted.
but we will ne'er be broken-hearted.

Beautiful song, GeeMo summed it up.

what does "oed" mean? because "und leer das meer" means and empty the sea..."oed" is sorta like "öde" though, which means barren. so maybe it's like lay barren and empty the sea?

I think it might be open to interpretation, Scabble -- but I like the way you've thought it out. I'll go with that! :)

"Oed und leer, das meer" originates from Robert Wagner's opera "Tristan and Isolde", and was also used by TS Eliot in his poem "The Wasteland".

almost a year later, to he who asked, oed is more or less ode, which does translate to barren or desolate. the sentence rouighly translages to "Desolate and empty the sea"

yeah. in the poem he looks for a boat and says oed und leer, das meer, meaning that there are no boats. the sea is empty and desolate. hrmph.

so maybe from above the sea looks empty but theres so much underneath the surface. i could try to think a little more but well im tired...

An amazing start to an amazing album. Ted lays it all out in the last verse. "...we will ne'er be broken-hearted."

the analysis of this song here has moved me, so thank you. i had bought the tyranny of distance and listened to it after my grandpa died, and it soothed me so much. after knowing the meaning behind the words, (as well as the accurate lyrics) it means so much more, and it oddly fits the circumstances that connected me to the music.

Gives me chills every time. I can't hear the "Down there they have a purpose" line and subsequent solo without feeling it up my spine. Closest I've ever come to crying because of music.

This has got to be one of the hands down most beautiful songs ever written. My favorite part is the last verse... it makes me cry every time.

I always want to do a hardcore allusion analysis on this song. I already know the TS Eliot reference, and I recently realized that the "We will ne'er be broken-hearted" is a reference to Burns' poem, "A Fond Kiss," which has the line "we had ne'er been broken-hearted."
Gotta love those English majors!

Tristan and Isolde is one of the most beautiful love stories of all time.
