Easily let’s get carried away
Easily let’s get married today
Shoa Lin's shout it arose from his throat
Everything must go
A lickin’ stick is thicker
When you break it to show
Everything must go

The story of a woman on the morning of a war
Remind me if you will exactly what we’re fighting for

Calling calling for something in the air
Calling calling I know you must be there

Easily let’s get caught in a wave
Easily we won’t get caught in a cage
Shao Lin shakin’ for the sake of his soul
Everything must go
Lookin’ mighty tired of
All the thing that you own
Everything must go

I can’t tell you who to idolize
You think it’s almost over
But it’s only on the rise
Calling calling for something in the air
Calling calling I know you must be there

The story of a woman on the morning of a war
Remind me if you will exactly what we’re fighting for

Throw me to the wolves
Because there’s order in the pack
Throw me to the sky
Because I know I’m coming back

Shao Lin shakin’ for the sake of his soul
Everything must go
Lookin’ mighty tired of
All the things that you own
Everything must go

The story of a woman on the morning of a war
Remind me if you will exactly what we’re fighting for

Calling calling for something in the air
Calling calling I know you must be there

I don’t want to be your little research monkey boy
The creature that I am is only going to destroy

Throw me to the wolves
Because there’s order in the pack
Throw me to the sky
Because I know I’m coming back

Easily

General Comment:"Shao Lin" is in reference to Mount Shaoshi, where the Shaolin Monastery is located. Shaolin Kung Fu is believed to be affiliated with The Shaolin Monastery..

And if that is the root of the reference, the battle imagery of the song makes perfect sense, whether you're relating it to your own personal scale or a world-wide scale of literal war.

Basically, liberation through disaster.. let me get caught in the wave, send me up towards the sky, because my enlightenment tells me I wont be gone forever.

Does this make sense to anyone but me?

General Comment:First of all, I would give my left hand to talk about this song with JF and Anthony for half an hour. It expresses so much power and at the same time deep thoughts. I thought about this song a LOT and listened to it a LOT.

I think it is about useless losses and useless actions, and people not thinking enough about their lives and losing control of their personal lives. This song expresses a revolte against modern life, I think. And that we, humans, should be alert and willing to fight against this.

    'Easily, lets get carried away
Easily, lets get married today '

People getting married to easily and not thinking about the consequences..

'The story of a woman on the morning of a war
Remind me if you will exactly what we’re fighting for'

War as in a personal war, being in a war with whoever that may be (your husband, your boss at work or whatever), over nothing. Because life is so stressed.

    'Throw me to the wolves
Because there’s order in the pack'

We could be better of in the nature, for instance in the wolvespack, there IS order and structure, in our human lives, there isn't. So humans have come to a point in which they are not developping themselves, but breaking themselves down.

    'You think it’s almost over
But it’s only on the rise
Calling calling For something in the air
Calling calling I know you must be there'

Very clear, last 2 lines are words of dispair, nearly. That we should stop destructing so much. It's not almost over, it's only getting bigger.

'I don’t want to be your little research monkey boy
The creature that I am is only going to destroy'

We shouldn't be little monkeys that follow every stream, but try to destroy it and stay ourselves.

    'Lookin’ mighty tired of
All the thing that you own
    Everything must go'

We have to much money and comfort and it should all be put away.

Just my interpretation... and for the rest: GREAT F*CKING SONG! love the chilis

Song Meaning:I've seen a lot of comment about it being with the theme; war!
I think that's the correct answer, but about it being "war", with the meaning of soldiers, weapons and so, I'm not quite sure about that!
    I've been doing so f*cking much thinking about this song, and here's what I came up with;

As mentioned, I think the theme is war - as the war every single people is having, no matter what kind of war it is.

    "Easily let's get carried away
    Easily let's get married today"
    - All of us have times, where we let our selves get carried away very easily. And as an example, let our self get married, without doing a thinking of the future. We don't think about the war that could come any time, instead we just let people take us away.

"Shao Lin shouted a rose from his throat
    Everything must go
    A lickin' stick is thicker
When you break it to show
    Everything must go"
    - I think Shao Lin is a fictive person, just like Dani from Dani California!
A girl/guy who declares his love.

"The story of a woman on the morning of a war
Remind me if you will exactly what we're fighting for"
    - This could be the woman who got easily married, and have decided to take up the war, and declare her true feelings. - Or maybe a man, who got easily married, and is now telling the woman his feelings, but of course, she doesn't want to break up with him.

"Calling calling for something in the air
Calling calling I know you must be there"
    - And when we take up the war, we pray for help. Just hoping for someone to hear our prayers and help us through the problem. Maybe our God?

"Easily let's get caught in a wave
Easily we won't get caught in a cave
Shao Lin's shakin' for the sake of his soul
    Everything must go
    Lookin' mighty tired of
All the thing that you own
    Everything must go"
    - Here we have it once again, all of the things we easily do without any thinking of the future!
I don't really know what's going on with Shao Lin right here - maybe he's actually in a war here or something.

"I can't tell you who to idolize
    You think it's almost over
But it's only on the rise"
    - The first line is tricky, but I think it's about how easy people mimic each other. And realize it, if you like someone (or look up to), you can't help but to mimic some of their actions, and that's how we easily let us change again!
Then, you might think that the future war won't be so bad, but they usually get, cause it's hard to tell someone, that you only did that and this, because you got carried away.

"I don't want to be your little research monkey boy
The creature that I am is only going to destroy"
    - Then I saw a comment about some stuff, about using kids for research, and I think that's a great guess! ~ My guess would be something like... getting used? When people know how easy you get carried away, and use it against you! - I've tried that, and that's really horrible + it's hard to get out of just like that.

    "Throw me to the wolves
Because there's order in the pack
    Throw me to the sky
Because I know I'm coming back"
    - Use me over and over, it won't hurt me no more!
And that's how I felt when I took that "friend" of mine, who used me, threw her to the garbage and got her away from my life!

~ I think this song is touching a lot of sensitive areas of life.

Just a guess, but I just feel like this every time I hear it!
    It's really touching me!

    What do you think? :)
(I apologize if my English is bad, I've been taking class for six years four hours a week so far!)

Song Meaning:Droyce did an excellent explanation. the only thing I haven't seen yet is an interpretation of "the story of a woman on the morning of the war, remind me if you will exactly what we are fighting for" to me it's an obvious reference to Gone With the Wind. The book starts out with scarlet on the porch getting pissed off because the men are more excited about the approaching war than they are about what dress she might wear to a party. The men are bickering over what the war is about and the young men just want a chance to fight. As the story progresses it's about learning to deal with the hardships of life on your own. Scarlet lost everything in the war and became a better person because of it.

General Comment:This I think is one of the best Chili songs on any album, it can be interpreted many different ways depending on your point of view. Many of which have already been discussed here. But I'm going to go out on the limb here and take a different approach.

It's pretty well known that the Peppers aren't beleivers of organized religion, although they are very spiritual. It seems most of them have the same beliefs as the shoa lin monks mentioned in the song. With that in mind, I think this song is about the evils of organized religion that plague much of the world.

"Easily lets get carried away" - Fundamentalist/Extremist very easily get carried away with religion.

"Easily lets get married today" - So much so, that they get married at the drop of a hat, an organized religous ceremony.
"Shoa Lin shouted a rose from his throat"-Shoa Lin monks try to teach(from their throats)peace(the rose).
"Everything must go"- All organized religion must go

"A lickin stick is thicker When you break it to show"- A "Lickin Stick" I'm interpreting as a whip used on catholic school children, but is made of wood(a natural material). Wood is "thicker" holds more evidence for evolution when you break it open than the bible, Qur'an, etc. (also products of wood)does for religion

"The story of a woman on the morning of a war
Remind me if you will exactly what we're fighting for"- The majority of wars throughout history have been caused because of religious differences.

"Calling calling for something in the air
Calling calling I know you must be there"- Notice the "Calling, Calling" as if it's desperate, but in vein. Many call for gods assistance, from heaven (air), claiming to know that it is there.

"Easily let's get caught in a wave"- It's quite easy to get caught in the "wave" of religion.

"Easily we won't get caught in a cave"- People of belief, disprute that humans haven't evolved from apes, or cavemen and refuse to get "caught" in the belief of the idea.

"Shao Lin's shakin for the sake of his soul"- Scared for the sake of his (our) soul. "Our" because they believe in everything as one.

    "Lookin mighty tired of
All the thing that you own"- The arguement that is for religion, is getting mighty hard to defend, with the evidence of evolution stacking up against it. Religion has a mighty debt for the things it will have to "own" up to.

I can't tell you who to idolize"- No one can tell you what to believe, or who (jesus?, allah?. etc.)

    "You think it's almost over
But its only on the rise"- Believers think the end is coming, god is coming and that will put the building evidence against it to rest. However, the evidence is only rising(building).

    "Throw me to the wolves
Because there's order in the pack"-Darwins theory, which isn't really a theory anymore,it's pretty much proven.

    "Throw me to the sky
Because I know I'm coming back"- Throw me to heaven, because there is no such thing, I'll just fall back to earth with the law of gravity, a law of nature.

"I don't want to be your little research monkey boy
The creature that I am is only going to destroy"-Many believers say that if we have evolved(from the same ancestors as monkeys, which research has shown), we are simply savage animals with no moral code, if there is no religion.

Again, I'm going out on the limb here, I presume many will see this as too far of a reach and the song isn't that indepth. But listen to "Wet Sand", its about an arguement over creation vs evolution. Also, if you are religious this is only an interpretation of the song. I respect your beliefs, and am in no way personally attacking them. Thanks.
