I think it is about a guy who isolates himself and doesn't open up to people, and has an affair with a girl from Kentucky.

It talks about the girl in every verse. "Autumn's sweet we call it fall" is what someone might say if they were visiting Kentucky from a different region.

Because he is emotionally detached, the relationship is only physical. "close your eyes and i'll kiss you." also he doesn't really care because the do it in a public bathroom. "blood loss" - he takes her virginity, so "wave goodbye to ma and pa."

The part about the birds, to me, is about the feeling of being on the balcony of a tall building, at the level where the birds are flying around. Instead of being immersed in the city, you are regarding it from a distance. "this lonely view."

He doesn't seem to see the situation as good or bad, he just accepts it.

As for the 3rd verse -- I have no idea! someone please tell me what it means!

okay so, pretty much by now you should know that this song kicks some serious ass. there are so many metaphors in this song..

autumn's sweet we call it fall..the most beautiful line i've ever heard. he's saying that autumn is too sweet of a name to refer to because of what he's talking about, so calling it fall is more appropriate. ehhh heard to explain ;]

I always considered this song to be about several people, all going through different things but in ways they're still going through something similar, which is isolation and lonliness.

-This person's hurting and they want someone to know they're in pain.

"Push me up against the wall
Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra
Fallin' all over myself
To lick your heart and taste your health"

-This person is just caught up in trying to make the person they like/love want them back.

"Blood loss in a bathroom stall
Sounthern girl with a scarlet drawl
Wave goodbye to ma and pa"

-The first line of this verse always makes me think of a heroin addict, with the whole loosing blood thing. So I think this person is struggling with a heroin addiction, and has lost all her friends and family because of it. ("Wave goodbye to ma and pa."

-This part's always been my favorite. :] I think this person is just dealing with trying to be accepted. Saying they'll do anything just to get to a point where they'll fit in.

And then the chorus parts I think are to show that despite all of them being in different situations, they're all going through the same thing; they're all lonely and they all are struggling and are all in pain.

But that's just my take, I know I'm probably wrong. :]

Kentucky girl....AK fell in love with her, and she said him that shes faithful to her boyfriend.at the and, there was oral sex after all..............
later he called some people from Kentucky and tried to find her but, he couldnt.......

the song is REALLY about Anthony Kiedis's drug addiction, the scar tissue is from the use of drugs, soft spoken with a broken jaw- refering to how hard it is to think clearly enough to speak correctly while high i'll make it to the moon if i have to crawl is him saying- ill beat my addiction no matter what. -fallin all over myself to lick your heart and taste your health, about a girl he met and he felt so physically distructed (health wise due to the drug use) so he was saying to get to know her would be like a breath of fresh air, like she's pure. and "with the birds i share this lonely view means... birds fly high, he related to them when he was high... its lonely being addicted to an altered state of mind

Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra" totally supports this. Also, when it says "blood loss in a bathroom stall" i think it could suggest about how a girl bleeds her first time. i dunno thats just what i got out of it!!!!! anyone agree???

I always thought it was about self harm, or something terrible that happened in your past, and having someone who was close to you that just didn't understand "with the birds i share this lonely view" as in birds eye view, looking down and seeing everything being able to reflect on past mistakes etc. "sarcastic mister know it all" someone saying that what you've bin through and where you've come from wasn't that hard and that everything wasn't as hard as you're making it out to be

I always thought it was about a guy who left home (wave goodbye to ma and pa 'cause) to set out and do something, achieve a goal he thought might be impossible (I'll make it to the moon if I have to crawl). And through the song, he tells the girl he loves about his journey, the people he met (sarcastic mister know-it-all, young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra, southern girl with a scarlet drawl) the things he's done (scar tissue that i wish you saw, blood loss in a bathroom stall, step outside but not to brawl), etc, and how he misses her (close your eyes and I'll kiss you 'cause...)

i think this song is about emotional scars that he feels nobody wants to hear about so he'll just share it with the birds even though he wishes someone could just see his turmoil without him telling them. whatever it really means, it's beautiful.

If you read Anthony Keidis' autobiography "Scar Tissue" you are also in the know. The song describes his time in rehab. He occupied the top floor of the rehab center and stated that he had a "bird's eye view" of the whole place. The line "With the brids Ishare this lonely view" comes from the lonely and miserable time at the rehab center. As for the other line the common theory of "self-harm" sounds good to me.

I absolutely love this song and the Chili Peppers are an amazing band. I find a relation to these lyrics through my own personal trials, and therefore interpret them accordingly. However I don't think it's far off the mark so I guess this could be read the same by other people. Anthony Kiedis' past addiction to heroin helped me translate this song into something to which I can relate.

I think the main chorus of "With the birds I'll share this lonely view..." is the basic theme for the whole song. I illustrate this as him feeling very lonely when he's high, the birds being a metaphor for his highness.

"Push me up against the wall
Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra
Fallin' all over myself"

I think this basically means that he and a girl he knows or loves is fighting over his drug use. "To lick your heart and taste your health cause'" is how he wants to be clean and healthy like her so that she'll love him.

"Blood loss in a bathroom stall
Sounthern girl with a scarlet drawl
Wave goodbye to ma and pa 'cause"

This verse is about him meeting a new girl and the two of them shooting up in a bathroom - "blood loss in a bathroon stall." By hanging out with him and being introduced to this drug, the girl is prone to get addicted and have it take over her life like as it so easily does to anyone that tries it, hence "wave goodby to 'ma and 'pa 'cause with the birds I'll share." Now he has a drug companion to ease his lonliness, but the girl, whose not used to the lifestyle will share the birds' lonliness like he once did. I'm not saying the guy is selfish and ruthless by getting her high; there was some reason for her to choose to do that. He was just trying to find a companion, one similar to the "young kentucky girl" to relate to, who loves him, and eases his lonliness, something the young kentucky girl couldn't provide for him.

I can't fully grasp the message of this verse, at least not in the first two lines. As for Autumn's sweet we call it fall, I'll make it the moon if I have to crawl;" this could be a metaphor for withdrawals. His "fall" is him coming down. The second line could be depicting how he'll do anything to find a way to get high - where the moon is a metaphor for getting high, and crawling to make it is his efforts for obtaining what he wants, and where he wants to be.

This is just my take as a heroin addict myself. But I hope anyone who is lonely or depressed, doing or not doing drugs can take something from this song. It's fucking beautiful.

i feel that "scar tissue" is both a metaphor for emotional damage, and away of saying "track marks". its about his experiences and the feelings of loneliness he has relating to his drug use. i've read that "sarcastic mr know it all" is dave navarro

This is one of my favorite songs. I think it deals with Anthony's emotional pain, which he shares with few people. Perhaps he wishes that his struggles were more obvious to those around him, as they might then be kinder.
Perhaps I am some kind of freak, but the "lick your heart and taste your health", I took very literally and found them to have a sexual connotation...the female genitalia...the clitoris, has the appearance of a "micro heart" and the taste your health, is self-explanatory.

Hes stubborn, hell do anything to get with this young girl, hes takes her virginity,she gets scared and leaves home, he gets in a fight coz hes upset,hes lonely coz shes gone and hell do anything to get her back but its too late.
