Weather 'round here choppin' and changin'
Surgery in the air
Print shirts and southern accents
Cigars and big hair
We got the wheels and petrol is cheap
Only went there for a week
Git the sun got the sand
Got the batteries in the handy cam
Her eyes all swimming pool blue
Dumb bells on a diving board
Baby's always attracted to the things she's afraid of
Big girl with the sweet tooth
Watches the skinny girl in the photo shoot
Freshmen squeaky clean
She tastes of chlorine

Miami
My mammy

Love the movies
Love to walk those movie sets
Get to shoot someone in the foot
Get to smoke some cigarettes
No big deal we know the score
Just back from the video store
Got the car and the car chase
What's he got inside the case
I want a close up of that face
Here comes the car chase

Miami
My mammy
Miami

I bought two new suits
Miami
Pink and blue
Miami
I took a picture of you
My mammy
Getting hot in a photo booth
Miami
I said you looked like a madonna
You said maybe
Said I want to have your baby
Baby
Baby
We could make something beautiful
Something that wouldn't be a problem
At least not in
Miami
Some places are like your auntie
But there's no place like

Miami
My mammy

Miami

Miami

General Comment:I've been a huge U2 fan for several years now, but it wasn't until I saw them last Saturday on the 360 Tour, during which they played some lesser-known songs ("Zooropa" got its US live debut) that I really felt the need to dive deep into their catalogue.

I'd never listened to all of "Pop" before, and I gotta say, I love this song. I kinda wish more U2 songs had this sultry and subtle a vibe. It's also fun to see how divisive "Miami" is. Seems like most hate it.

    Yeah, it's atypical U2, but it's a direction I really wished they'd followed a bit more.

General Comment:I do think it's one of the least songs on Pop, but I do like it. I also happen to like Playboy mansion, not because of brilliantly written lyrics, but because of a blatant sort of frustration, very shallow. But that's a different song.

In this song I like the atmosphere. It's dark, yet it describes nice things, mainly. I dunno why I have to "love it or hate it". I like it, but it's no "Do you feel loved" "Mofo" or "Please"...

General Comment:This song is great, I was kinda off the U2 radar for a while, went to see the in concert during the Pop Tour, I was 7 rows back, dead center and I was singing along with all the favorites and grooving to the new ones off of Pop...this song, made me stand up and take notice...this song made me purchase Pop and appreciate everything about the tour and the album.

General Comment:Bono wrote: "some places are like your auntie". This phrase is key to understanding the meaning of the song.
Consider how an (Irish) auntie treats a child. She visits occasionally, she is friendly but perhaps rather cold; she may bring sweets (candy) or other small gifts, or she may not. She may be on good terms with your parents, or (like one of my aunties) may resent them for various reasons, perhaps dating back to their youth.
You may or may not look forward to seeing your Irish auntie. Perhaps you visit her; you could associate with your cousins, who are probably of your own age. But even in the 1970s when Bono grew up, many Irish women (including aunties) were choosing to be childless.
If your parents are cold, your auntie may be a source of comfort and advice; or, quite possibly, she is aloof and you feel much closer to your mother.
You may like your auntie, and you may not. She may like you, and she may not.
Bearing all this in mind, we can see that some places are, indeed, "like your auntie".

General Comment:Pop is a very underrated album. I love U2 and I like this song. It is kinda bizarre though.

General Comment:I hate this song, but love POP.

    Miami, my mammy

Huh? I cannot understand why so many people like this song. Maybe there's a disproportional amount of posters that like this song. Ok, opinions vary, but usually the fans of this song hate other songs that are superior in every other way. Again, opinions vary.

General Comment:I find it funny that your only real defense Keyser Sushi was to make Ad Hominems. Amazing thing is, a song can have a meaning, a purpose, and still fail. Theres nothing profound about this song, its unremarkable musically, its meanings been done many times over, and far better.
And not liking a mincing little tuneless comment on artificiality makes one artificial?
How exactly does that logic work?
