Nobody else here baby
No one here to blame
No one to point the finger
It's just you and me and the rain
It's the blind leading the blond
It's the stuff, it's the stuff of country songs
If God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
And if God will send his visions
Would everything be alright
God has got his phone off the hook, babe
Would he even pick up if he could
It's been a while since we saw that child
Hanging 'round this neighborhood
You see his mother dealing in a doorway
See Father Christmas with a begging bowl
Jesus sister's eyes are a blister
The High Street never looked so low
It's the blind, leading the blond
It's the cops collecting for the cons
If God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
And if God will send his visions
Where do we go
Where do we go
Jesus never let me down
You know Jesus used to show me the score
Then they put Jesus in show business
Now it's hard to get in the door
It's the stuff, it's the stuff of country songs
But I guess it was something to go on
So where is the hope and where is the faith
And the love...what's that you say to me
Does love...light up your Christmas Tree
The next minute your blowing a fuse
And the cartoon network turns into the news
If God will send his angels
I sure could use them here right now
Well if God would send his angels
Where do we go
I don't need to lie
I don't need to know
And I don't want to promise
And I don't want to lie
I just want to feel the song

General Comment:I read at the time that Pop was an album where the band really ran up against a release deadline and ended up with versions of some songs that they were not entirely happy with. With the later release of singles they had the chance to revisit a few of the songs and rework them a bit. In the single version of If God Will Send His Angels the ending has changed with the following lines that immediately follow after the line "Sure could use them here right now"

"And I don't have to know how
And I don't have to know why
    I don't want to promise
Because I don't want to lie
Just want to meet you, tonight."

It's an amazing journey from the first line of the song.

General Comment:I think this song is about how the message of God, Jesus Christ, is not so much taken in the world as we know it. Where's the faith, hope, and love? It is very rare to see these qualities in people today. Some Christians show it, but it seems rather peculiar to really feel and see that this person is truly in love with Christ and others. It also makes me think about how when things go bad, that's when most people turn to God, but that's not a bad thing at all! Don't get me wrong. I did this and it changed my life. We should go to God when times are hard, who else will understand and help? Others can be instruments of God to, its good to pray whatever circumstance one is in and believe that God is hearing you. Well that's my two cents. I do love this song, its a interesting video too, I'm not sure why people on the bus are speaking to the screen?

General Comment:It's scary when God asks you to be one of his angels, and you don't know what to do.

I need to be an angel, but I'm scared.

I will trust. I will follow.

My Opinion:The last bit of the song -

"Jesus never let me down you know Jesus used to show me the score
then they put Jesus in show business now it's hard to get in the door

it's the stuff it's the stuff of country songs
but I guess it was something to go on"

    Should read

".... it's hard to get in the door

So step, step up into his arms
but I guess this is something to call you"

Its obsecured by a sound effect but you can still hear him say it.

Also as noted above its not 'scat singing' at the end, he sings pretty much what the poster above says.

General Comment:This song is very bleak... I really love this album, though, it's also very different from the others from not only a musical point of view but also lyrically, it's so desperate and filled with soul-searching. This reminds me vaguely of some of the imagery found in "Desolation Row" by Bob Dylan (though kinda less surreal): "See father christmas with a begging bowl", "it's the cops collecting for the cons", "the cartoon network turns into the news"... all seems to paint a maddening, noise-filled, morally empty world... Consumerism even infected religion, the blinds leads the blond, so where is the love? Also tied to "Wake Up Dead Man".

General Comment:This has to do with much of the "God, where are you?" theme found in POP, and wondering why he allows so much crap to go on and destroy lives. It also has to do with how religion is marketed and sugarcoated by people who have recreated God in their own image.

General Comment:Its not about god failure because he doesn't fail. Its about needing something from God but understandin that God isn't in the sign or the miracle business all that much anymore cause he wants us to believe blindly
