Take these hands they're good for nothing
You know these hands never worked a day
Take these boots they're going nowhere
You know these boots don't want to stray

You got my head filled with songs
You got my shoelaces undone
Take my shirt, go on take it off me
You can tear it up
If you can tie me down

Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved

Take the colors of my imagination
Take the scent hanging in the air
Take this tangle of a conversation
And turn it into your own prayer

With my fingers as you want them
With my nails under your hide
With my teeth at your back
And my tongue to tell you the sweetest lies

Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved
And it looks like the sun
But it feels like the rain

Love's a bully pushing and shoving
In the belly of a woman
Heavy rhythm taking over
To stick together
A man and a woman
Stick together
Man and woman
Stick together...

And I feel loved
Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved
And it looks like the sun
But it feels like the rain
And there's heat in the sun
To see us through the rain

Do you feel loved
Do you feel loved
Do you feel...
Do you feel...

General Comment:Okay, say what you may but I think this song is entirely about sex. Just my opinion.

"Take these hands, they're good for nothing, you know these hands never worked a day"- Sounds kind of like a lazy celebrity who has nothing better to do... "these hands never worked a day"

"Take these boots, they echo nowehere, you know these boots don't want to stray"- He doesnt want to leave her room

"You got my head filled with songs"- Ina daze, thinking about her

"You got my shoelaces undone"- Already starting to undress...

"Take this shirt, c'mon and take it off me, your can tear it up if you can tie me down"- No explnation necessary. She's undressing the rest of him, using his shirt to tie him up- or maybe it's metaphorical. :P

"Do you feel loved?"- Does it feel okay, am I doing it right for you? Do you object?

"Tak the colors of my imagination"- Devising new thingsa to do in bed

"Take this scent hanging in the air"- No thoughts on this line

"Take this tanlge of conversation and turn it into your own prayer"- Well. I guess there isn't much talking going on while having sex... turn it into your own prayer could mean make what you want of it, turn it into declarations of love.

"With my fingers as you want them, with my nails under your hide... with my teeth at your back, and my tongue to tell you the sweetest lies"- Really really sexy lines! By sweetest lines it could mean sweet nothings... he doesn't really think of her as a person, just an object tot fullfill his desire with. Which is why he asks "Do you feel loved?"- he doesn't, he only feels lust.

"And it looks like the sun, but it feels like the rain"- The love looks right and sunny, and normal, but it feels like the rain- it doesn't feel like love at all. Indeed, it feels like sadness, tears, rain.

"Love is coming, pushing and shoving, in the belly of a woman"- Could mean a pregnancy, but I'm thinking of the man inside the woman, "pushing and shoving"... :P

"Heavy rhythm taking over to stick together a man and a woman"- Orgasm?

"There's heat in the sun to see us through the rain"- Their passion can overlook the fact that they don't really love each other.

My Interpretation:I think that this song is about woman in general and if the things the man do for woman really do make them feel loved. There are part about how man care for woman and mistreat them. I think that the sun and rain part is about how it can seem that things are going well in the relationship from where the guy stand but the girl is hurting inside. "Love's a bully pushing and shoving/in the belly of a woman" is about how it is a miracle that though women life can come in to the world. Sadly dispute this miracle the rhythm or lust of the world that degrades woman. But dispute all the pain with the man-woman relationship we should stick to together and try to learn to love each other more.

General Comment:and one more thing..."it looks like the sun, but it feels like the rain" reminds me a lot of a mirrorball. which is an enduring icon in the album!

General Comment:i think you guys are failing to see the big picture and sadly enough i mean taking the song for what it really is...

Bono declared that this song is the 2nd part to discotheque which according to him is about the drug Ecstasy. We all know Ecstasy give people a euphoric sense of love of everyone around them hence "do you feel loved?" whether its true or drug induced.

also, the drug is assosciated with clubbing and disco "heavy rhytthm taking over" and "pushing and shoving" are all reminders that this scenario takes place in a night club of some sort. all that symbolic ranting in the song about "turn it into your own prayer" just relates to how collectivelly people behave when in such an evirnonment. its not a personal song, its probably the most generic song the band have ever written. just think of how people at a rave party almost behave like a congregation at a church

General Comment:I completely agree with eirenightshade, she actually nailed it.

Bono is singing to a fan who worships him, he says that she can take his hands that she appreciate so much, but they actually never done anything for her, and it is true that Bono never worked a day in something that it's not music. The boots, the shirt, etc. represent those objects that the fans worship so much just because they belonged to a rock star.

Then, he ask himself, or maybe he asks the fans: do you feel loved? Is this somehat sick relationship really love?

The metaphor "it looks like the sun, but it feels like the rain", well... when you see Bono everyone would like to be in his place, you see a rock star, you see someone famous and rich, but those things that people would envy him, he feel tired and sick of them, and they have their prize, they feel... like the rain.

"There's heat in the sun, to see us through the rain" hmmm... not sure about this, but maybe that beneath that rock star, if "take a look inside" you can see the real thing about being a rock star, but I'm not so sure. There's a chance that maybe even Bono doesn't know what it means but the line sounds great, LOL.

All in all, it's a song about fame but mixed with a sex song, or maybe about sex with a fan...

General Comment:I love this song, the sound of it is just awesome.. it was such a stretch for U2 to make something like this.

But anyway, this song is either about two people caught up in a very lustful relationship, or two people who are in a volitale, lustful relationship.. Either way, sex is an obvious element in the story.

General Comment:It seems to be about the ups and downs of a relationship 'theirs heat in the sun to see us through the rain' - its about sticking together.
