Burst into heaven
Kissing the cotton clouds
Arctic sheets and fields of wheat
I can't stop coming down
Your shrunken head
Looking down on me above
Send me home like an elephant stone
To smash my dream of love
Dreaming till the sun goes down
And night turns into day
Rooms are empty I've got plenty
You could move in right away

It seems like there's a hole
In my dreams
In my dreams
In my dreams

Down through the heavens
Choke on the cotton clouds
Arctic sheets and fields of wheat
I can't stop coming down
Your shrunken head
Looking down on me above
Send me home like an elephant stone
To smash my dream of love

Did your bed and bookshelf go
And run run run away
These four walls saw the rise and fall
And your midnight getaway
Seems like there's a hole
In my dreams
Or so it seems
Yet nothing means anything
Anymore

General Comment:I agree with a lot of the things that have already been said by people commenting on this song. I think its about a rejection of some sort, or perhaps not, there are things that he says that suggest it could be either way, for example he says "rooms are empty I've got plenty you can move in right away" that to me doesn't sound particularly like a relationship that has just ended. The other parts of the song sound to me simply like someone who is still in the very very early stage post break up, in which everything seems almost surreal, and you still almost have the drug of that person flowing through your veins, but everyday you need more to get by, and you have less and less of that person, to me thats what he means by "I can't stop coming down" (dreams, fading, chemical withdrawl, losing touch with a feeling you miss or need) I'm sure that drugs could be a possibilty, I'm not English so the elephant stone thing kind of escapes me. But it's strange when I hear this song It reminds me so much of that feeling when you still have the hope of someone, and you still have the thrill of them in your mind, almost as though they couldn't have broken up with you for real. Its one of my favorite songs though I love this band, I am only 23 so I think I kind of missed out on them when they were young, but I'm happy I heard about them later. One more thing, that line when he says "Your shrunken head lookin down on me above" I think I can kind of relate to that, seeing a girl almost looking down on you, still caring about you in someways, but clearly having moved on in others, so that she wants you to get through it, and be happy, but she's definitely not coming back, because she has decided you are not right for her, it has nothing to do with love, it just has to do with the choices people make and how both parties respond. The "hole in his dreams" is the fact that no matter how many times he goes over it, it doesn't ever make sense or get any easier. It just simply seems impossible.

My Opinion:Being a history major, I thought of Major-General William Elphinstone's disastrous retreat from Afghanistan during the First Anglo-Afghan War. To me, anyway, this makes sense with the lyric "Send me home like an elephant stone."

General Comment:I always thought it was "feels like there's a HOME in my dreams". Because in a way, our dreams are a pure expression of our internal self - they are an exclusive construction of our thoughts, memories, desires etc.

    The whole song is surreal.

"Send me home like an elephant stone" - reminds me of the bizarre and heavy transition into the dream world of sleep.

Love the 'elephant trumpeting' distortion in the beginning ^^

General Comment:Don't know what this song means, but its amazing. The drums are thunderous, Squire's guitar is airy and dreamy, and Brown's singing is spot on. Gotta say the 12" mix is favorite version, because of the great drum intro. You can also hear the guitar arpeggios better.

    General Comment:"It's about a girl… who I don't see anymore". (John Squire)

It's an absolutely brilliant tune. I especially like the outro of the song.

General Comment:in my opion this is the best ever song writtin, the structure of it, ians voice, manis bass, ians fantastic riffs and reni stunning drumming. its got to be about a girl who u thinks needs you but there is a delay and in reality see just knocks you down in one.
you have got to have a gud imagionation to write stuff like this.

General Comment:Astral projection? Pretty abstract imagery. The Turns into Stone version is better, in my opinion.
