Slip into the autumn shade
I could sleep for days
But I like the sun when
I can hear another sound
It's a long way down
Keep my head up

Who am I to be this way
Dreamin' so insane
But I like the sun when
Fallin' through another plain
Never one the same
Keep my head up

General Comment:While the whole sadness thing makes sense, and the transition thing makes even more sense to me, I'd say it's more like lazyness. While I suppose this is not so consistent with autumn, I've always thought of shade as comfortable/it seems like what he lacks is the effort/motivation to move out into the sun, and so he spends his time sleepying/dreaming of it.

    p.s.sounded better in my head

this is my mates favorite song on the album (mine being sun child) and i think you could say its a song about Craig expressing his depression or his happiness or a blend of both.

i love The vines songs that seems like there in a dream and you fall into it as well then the next song comes on and its more rock and it wakes u up.

General Comment:beautiful lyrics. i think its about being alive personally. who am i to be this way? dreaming so insane. like who am i to think outside of the box? who am i to seperate myself from the herd and be an individual. i have no right to be better than anyone else. dreaming so 'insane' what would be considred 'insane' behaviour to some people, may be the only way of life to some, seperate from fascism.

General Comment:the kind of humming bit at the end is so sweet, I love it.

Yes, I KNOW that had nothing to do with these lyrics so no one needs to say it, OK?

General Comment:this is my absolute favorite song. ever since I first heard it I loved it. shivers down the spine.. has that kind of amazing stunning creepy dreamy feeling. makes me think of sunshine and rain and shade, forests, dreams and sleep. calming and beautiful, sleepy and mellow, but really emotional too, like alot of the vine's slower songs but even more so. To me thats what the lyrics mean, just conveying the feelings in the song.

General Comment:I wouldn't be quite so specific with what each thing stands at. I think its a song between happiness and Melancholy. Autumn and shade are both states of transistion. From summer to winter from light to dark. This song I would say is about being inbetween places. I would call it a happy sad song. He's on the verge of happiness or despair and the dream like music helps give it the sound of somewhere near delerium. A very calm and peaceful sort of maddness.

General Comment:what is autumn shade? is that his way of describing a state of mind of some sort of depression?

    first verse-
    if autumn shade is sadness,
    than this makes sense.
Slip into the autumn shade- slip into a depression
I could sleep for days- sleep to get away
But I Iike the sun when
I can hear another sound- he wants to be happy, (sun= something that makes him happy?) he doesn't want to be alone
    It's a long way down
Keep my head up- try to be happy no matter what comes his way.

second verse- i don't have a specific idea of what this verse could mean,
i'm thinking along the lines of he has no reasons to be sad, (who am i to be this way?) and he doesn't know why his dreams are odd. again, the sun reference with a different line following it, maybe when he fails at something a specific something keeps him happy. he wants to be happy. (keep my head up)

i have no background information on the vines, i just wanted to analyze something by them because the song is lovely. do tell me if i'm wrong. (i most likely am, i over-analyze)
